Starwood Preferred Guest has a new promotion for 21 of their resorts in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. You can save 30% to 50% of the points used for an award for stays between October 21 and December 20, 2012. You will need to register for this promotion and the points will be redeposited back to your account after your stay.

Your award stay can begin or end outside promotional period as long as you have at least one night during the eligible dates. Only standard awards are eligible for this rebate. The 5th night free awards are eligible for the discount as well. Note that you need to register for this promotion by November 30, 2012.

Conclusion

It is great that SPG is having a reward sale. The SPG awards at category 7 properties are outrageously overpriced points wise. Getting them at 50% discount can be a good deal, however. This is off season for many of the properties so you should always check the paid rates as well.

Q: If I have an Award stay that starts prior to October 21, or checks out after December 20, is it still eligible to receive the redemption savings?
A: Yes. As long as one (1) night of the eligible Award stay falls within the promotional period, the registered member will receive 30%, 40% or 50% of his or her Starpoints bonused back for all standard room Free Night Award nights at a participating property during that stay.

Q: Is 5th Night Free Starpoints redemptions eligible for this offer?
A: Yes. Registered members will receive 30%, 40% or 50% of their Starpoints back for eligible 5th Night Free Award stays in standard rooms at participating properties. For example, a 5 night stay in a standard room at The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa (category 5) will cost the member 48,000 Starpoints. The member will receive 24,000 Starpoints (50%) back as part of this promotion.

Q: I booked my Award stay months ago, prior to the promotion starting. Am I still eligible for the offer?
A: Yes. As long as the member registers for the promotion and his or her eligible Award stay falls within the promotion period, the member is eligible for the offer. There is no need for a member to cancel and rebook an Award stay.

Q: If I complete my Award stay prior to registering for this promotion, am I still eligible for this offer?
A: Yes, as long as a member’s eligible Award stay falls within the promotional period, he or she will be eligible for the Starpoints bonus regardless of registration date.

Q: Is my Award stay booked online eligible for this offer?
A: Yes. Any Free Night Award stay in a standard room booked through spg.com or through the SPG Customer Contact Center is eligible for this offer.

Q: I have a stay that is a mix of Award nights and paid nights. Is it eligible for this offer?
A: Yes. A member will receive 30%, 40%, or 50% of his or her Starpoints redeemed bonused back for any eligible Award nights completed during a stay at a participating property. There is no discount or rebate on any cash portion of the stay.

Q: Is there a limit to the number of times I can take advantage of this offer?
A: Members may take advantage of this offer multiple times, as long as they meet the registration and promotion earning criteria previously described.

Q:How many Starpoints will be bonused back for each eligible Award night at participating resorts?
A: The number of Starpoints bonused will depend on the category level of the participating resort and the number of nights redeemed. Two examples are below:
No. 1: Member redeems for 3 nights at The St Regis Bal Harbour Resort (category 7) during non-peak season dates for a total of 90,000 Starpoints. Member will receive a bonus of 45,000 (50% of 90,000) Starpoints as part of this offer.

No. 2: Member redeems for 5 nights at the Westin Resort & Casino, Aruba, (category 5) for a total of 48,000 Starpoints, taking advantage of SPG’s 5th Night Free benefit. Member will receive a bonus of 19,200 (40% of 48,000) Starpoints as part of this offer.

Q: When will I receive my Starpoint bonus reimbursement?
A: A registered member who has eligible Award stays will see the Starpoints bonused to his or her account within 4–6 weeks of the eligible Award stay posting to his or her account.

Q: Can I take advantage of other promotions occurring at participating resorts concurrently with this promotion?
A: Promotions for paid nights are eligible at the participating resorts during the promotional period; however, no other redemption offers can be combined with this offer.
