Marriott has a bonus offer going on for gift card purchases. You can get 10 Marriott Rewards points per dollar for up to 20000 points. This offer is valid between November 19 and December 31, 2012. There is no need to register for this offer, but you need to have your Marriott Rewards number on hand when making the purchase.

Marriott missent the email above this morning and forgot the body of the text. I was able to pull up the term and conditions of this offer from the email, however.

All you need to do when purchasing the gift cars is to include your Marriott Rewards number on the promotional code field after placing the card to your basket and checking out.

Note that it makes sense to make separate purchases if you decide to max this offer as the delivery charge is $1 for orders of less than $1000.

Remember that you may be able to combine this offer and get some cashback for the purchase as well. You can read more about getting cashback for your travel purchases here. TopCashback is offering 5% cashback rebate for Marriott gift card purchases. MrRebates, Ebates and others may be offering as well, but I couldn’t find a link that would apply for gift card purchases.

There are other offers for Marriott gift card purchases as well that you should consider. You can get 10% bonus loaded to your card, United miles, or Southwest Rapid Rewards points. There is a Delta offer out as well that is mediocre compared to these four.

Conclusion

I have taken advantage of the Marriott gift card purchase offer several times. If you are close to a travel package figure or vacation needing lot of points, I would choose this 10 points per dollar purchased. If you are points rich, I would choose the 10%bonus in top of the purchase. These offers are close to wash.

The purchase of Marriott Gift Cards is processed by Marriott as count as a Marriott charge if you are using one of the Chase branded Marriott credit cards.

For anyone with a Chase Freedom credit card, hotels are a bonus spending category of 5X until the end of December.

I am not sure if this counts as a hotel spent for any other than the Marriott Chase cards.

John, can you confirm that you get the 10 points per dollar spent when you stay at a Marriott property and use a gift card? Thus, you would be awarded the 10 points per dollar spent twice.

Yes. You get the usual number of points as if you paid cash. The number of points earned is brand dependent i. e. full service is 10 & limited service ones less.

Will this bonus be applied to eGiftCards? I’m in Canada but am obviously not going to pay $20 for a card to be mailed to me. It’s hard to tell on the form – it takes my reward number but that doesn’t indicate a bonus will be applied.

The terms and conditions refers to GiftCards and not eGiftCards. I would call them to make sure.
