Priority Club and Amtrak Guest Rewards are transfer partners via Points.com. Once you have signed up for Points.com account, you can then link number of your accounts and perform transfers between them, often at very unfavorable rates. But it is worthwhile sometimes to clean up old accounts or for meeting some promotional activity requirements.

Now, you can transfer Priority Club points to Amtrak Guest Rewards points at very favorable ratio, however. You 3 Priority Club points will turn to 4 Amtrak Guest Rewards points. The minimum number of points that you need to transfer from Priority Club is 10000 but there doesn’t appear to be upper limit and you can transfer any amount over 10K.

Amtrak Guest Rewards Points for Hyatt Gift Cards and SPG Cat 1 to 4 Hotels

Guest Rewards members can redeem 10K points for $100 Hyatt gift card that is valid in United States, Canada and the Caribbean. So, 7518 Priority Club points gets you a $100 Hyatt gift card.

You can also redeem for SPG Category 1 to 4 award nights at reasonable rates if you transfer the points in from Priority Club. SPG category 1 for one night is 7518 PC points, category 2 is 11278 PC points, category 3 16917, and category 4 20676 PC points.

There is no requirement to be a Select or higher member to redeem for Hyatt or SPG and there doesn’t appear to be any limits of number of i.e. Hyatt Gift Cards that you can purchase using points.

Amtrak to Hilton HHonors and Choice Privileges

Note that you need to be a Select or higher member and there are some limitations how many points you can transfer out unless you have the highest Guest Reward status, have a certain credit card and some Amtrak spend on it.

15K Choice Privileges Points set you back 5K Amtrak points that would be 3759 Priority Club points. You can use Choice Privileges points for hotel stays but there are quite a few other redemption partners as well. 5K Choice points can be transferred to 1000 American, United, US Airways, Delta, Alaska and quite a few other airlines. In essence, 3759 Priority Club points would get you 3000 miles in these programs.

One popular Choice Privileges partner is Southwest Airlines. You can convert Choice points to Rapid Rewards. Every 1800 in Rapid Rewards points cost you 6000 Choice Privileges points. 1800 Rapid Rewards points are worth $30 to $15 depending of the Southwest fare type that you are purchasing.

Transferring Amtrak Guest Rewards points that were first transferred in from Priority Club to Hilton HHonors is also a very good option. 5K Amtrak that is 3759 Priority Club points transfers to 10K Hilton HHonors.

Only Members with Amtrak Guest Rewards Select, Select Plus or Select Executive status and Members that are active cardholders of the Amtrak Guest Rewards® MasterCard® issued by Chase Bank with an Amtrak travel spend on the card of over $200 per calendar year may redeem for hotel points and Audience Rewards points.

  • Members that are active cardholders of the Amtrak Guest Rewards® MasterCard® issued by Chase Bank with an Amtrak travel spend on the card of over $200 per calendar year may redeem up to 25,000 Amtrak Guest Rewards points per calendar year for hotel points and Audience Rewards.

  • Current Amtrak Guest Rewards Select or Select Plus Members (including those who are active cardholders of the Amtrak Guest Rewards® MasterCard® issued by Chase Bank with an Amtrak travel spend on the card of over $200 per calendar year) may redeem up to 50,000 Amtrak Guest Rewards points per calendar year for hotel points and Audience Rewards.

Amtrak Guest Rewards points to Gift Cards

If you are allowed to transfer Amtrak points to Choice, the gift card selection using Choice points is greater. Amtrak, however, also has quite a few cards on their selection and there is no requirement for a special status in order to redeem for these first.

You can get number of $100 gift cards for 10K Amtrak points that in turn would cost 7518 Priority Club points.

Amtrak Guest Rewards points for Amtrak Travel

Friend of mine, who alerted me about this deal yesterday, had been looking for a train from Los Angeles to Seattle on a sleeper car. By buying the points from Priority Club, he was able to get $1600 train ticket for two for just $270 in Priority Club points.

Link your Priority Club and Amtrak Guest Rewards accounts

You need to first link your Priority Club account and your Amtrak account to Points.com. Both of these accounts can be added and validated immediately.

The transfer from Priority Club to Amtrak should take less than business day. It appears not to be instantaneous but take 12 to 20 hours. Let me know how long your transfer took.

Using Amtrak Guest Rewards points on Points.com

Once you have transferred Priority Club points to Amtrak Guest Rewards, you can also use them for transfers to airlines without elite status requirement through Points.com. You can get i.e. 65K AS, 53K US Airways Dividend or 35K UA for 100K Amtrak Guest Rewards pints that you can get for 75K transfer from Priority Club. There are other options via Points.com as well.

Conclusion

This is an excellent deal to launder excess Priority Club points (at 1.33 cents each) to Hyatt gift cards or SPG category 1 to 4 free nights certs, which these are not as good deal as the Hyatt gift cards.

If you have the elite status with Amtrak and the correct credit card, transferring Guest Rewards points to Hilton HHonors and Choice is an excellent deal as well once you have first transferred them in from Priority Club. Choice Privileges points are very flexible and can be further converted to number of airline miles or gift cards.

You can buy unlimited number of Priority Club points from InterContinental Hotels Group at $70 per 10K points. You need to do cash & point redemption(s) and cancel the reservation(s), but the purchased points stick.

Of course, the Amtrak points are likely best used for rail travel. There are number of redemption options available on Amtrak’s and Guest Rewards’ websites.

Any clue how long are valid these Hyatt gift cards or SPG certificates?

Is there any theritorial restrictions to change PC points to Hyatt/SPG values?(they send it on email or phisically at home address)?

Do I need to be Amtrak Mastercard holder to enjoy Hyatt/SPG exchange?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

I don’t think that Hyatt gift cards have an expiry date. The SPG awards are valid at least for a year.

You do not have to be an elite member or Amtrak branded credit card holder to exchange Amtrak Guest Rewards points for these twp

Can you do this through Priority Club or Amtrak rather than going through Points.com?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

You need to use Points.com. They don’t offer direct transfers outside of Points.com.

  • Andy F.

For the amtrak tix option, do you have to be a Select member like amtrak to hhonors and choice? Thanks!

For Amtrak tickets, there is no need to be an elite member of Amtrak program.

Apparently Points.com claims that they had made a mistake with trade ratios between various programs. I just made an updated post.

Apparently, they are claiming an error. I just made an updated post about the situation.

FYI: I was just about to exchange 31K points between PC and Amtrak and got a message stating I needed a minimum balance of 1k Amtrak points to be eligible to make the exchange. To meet the minimum balance I could purchase 1K Amtrak points for $27.50…Worth it? 50K Amtrak points is $500 in Haytt gift cards, so topically seems like a decent deal.
