After the incident yesterday with the smoke on the ANA 787’s cockpit, the US authorities have decided to ground the 787 planes operated by United Airlines. European, Indian and Japanese authorities have all done the same decision. LAN has voluntarily grounded its three 787 planes.

It is interesting to see how long this grounding is going to last and if it will have an effect on future deliveries of 787 “Dreamliner” planes. [click to continue…]

In March 2012, I wrote about coming changes to Delta’s SkyMile program. I was going to update the article at some point, but the deployment of the changes has been delayed by Delta many times.

UPDATE: We should learn more about these Delta changes at 9AM EST on Thursday unless there is last minute change in plans.

Now, Delta mistakenly or on purpose put up some program change information on Delta.com and shortly removed it. FlyerTalk member DLroads was able to copy/paste the information that Delta had changed and that now has been removed. Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) has a new promotions for Air Canada Aeroplan members that stay at Starwood hotels in Canada. You can earn 3000 bonus Aeroplan miles after five nights and another 3000 bonus nights after five more nights for total of 6000 bonus miles for stays between January 14 and April 14, 2013. There are number of InterContinental hotels in Europe that are offering 5000 bonus Priority Club points per stays when you book IKP50 rate plan. I have written about similar offers for European InterContinental hotels previously as well. These bonus points are currently availability until April 8, 2013, and you can access this offer here.

Normally, when you book one of these bonus point rates, you are not getting the points for free but rather paying a premium over the cheapest rate.
