Using AviancaTaca LifeMiles for Hilton Hotel Stays

by John O. on January 23, 2013

AviancaTaca’s LifeMiles has a new partnership with Hilton HHonors that allows you to book Hilton hotels using your award miles. You can access this offer here.

You need to use your LifeMiles account number and password to log in into Hilton’s website where you can see the number of miles required for your stay. I tried accessing the site using both Chrome and FireFox browsers but the site was not functional. It seems to work better using Internet Exploder, however.

You should only use your LifeMiles for Hilton stays IF you don’t have any other use for them. The value of a mile, when used to book a hotel room, is usually low. You really should just pay for the room and use the LifeMiles for Star Alliance business and first class awards.

Conrad Hong Kong

33400 LifeMiles vs around $500 for the Best Available Rate.

Hilton Kuala Lumpur

26700 LifeMiles vs around $160?

Hilton Sao Paulo

Conclusion

Seems that the number of LifeMiles required for an award room is not directly correlated with the price of the room. You can use them for some expensive Hilton’s like in Sao Paulo and get a reasonable value for your AviancaTaca LifeMile.

Do you think there’s a formula or zone/category redemption? Seems sort of weird.

Seems that the “floor” for Hilton brand of Hilton hotels is 20K LifeMiles but I saw some DoubleTree’s for 16K (something). Need to investigate this more but this wouldn’t be my first choice of using LifeMiles.

Too bad there isn’t waldorf-astoria. I’ve seen conrad singapore for 26,000 miles which isn’t too bad (and is 50k Hilton I think). But it also seems like it’s capacity controlled…

Yes. Seems that Conrad’s tend to start at that level. This could be worthwhile IF the paid rates are really high but availability exists using LifeMiles. Not sure if these book into Hilton’s award buckets.
