SPG extended the Ambassador service to Platinum members that had more than 100 nights within a calendar year starting in 2012 and made the program official. Due to good promotions that SPG had in 2011, I had more than 100 nights with them during that year. You can read my take about this program from 2012, when it was introduced here.

In 2012, the SPG promos quite frankly were inferior and I didn’t even have 50 nights with them, but had more than the minimum number of stays required to qualify for Platinum and, thus, received the above email yesterday. [click to continue…]

The complimentary Hyatt Gold Passport suite upgrade electronic vouchers that were issued based on qualifying to Diamond status in 2011 are expiring today (February 28). You cannot extend the expiry of these, but you can apply them for future reservations as long as there is upgrade availability using these certificates.

Some properties have good availability using these certs while some don’t. Hyatt doesn’t reimburse properties for suite upgrade voucher usage, so properties have limited suite upgrade availability. [click to continue…]

Fairmont President’s Club issues certificates like room upgrades, suite upgrades, food vouchers etc. for their Platinum members. These are usually valid until the February the following year. The 2011 issued certificates were going to expire today (February 28), but Fairmont has (again) extended the validity of them by couple of weeks.

There were some reports on FlyerTalk that Fairmont had extended the validity of these certs to far further to some members. I dropped an email to FPC’s customer service yesterday and requested these to be extended all the way to the end of April. I will report here once I hear back from them, whether my wish was granted or not. [click to continue…]

Air France and KLM’s Flying Blue program releases a list of promotional destinations every couple of months that are redeemable for half the usual number of miles. They just announced the latest list of destinations that are bookable from February 27 (earlier for Flying Blue elites) that you can access here.

Thing to note is that you can book these also as one way.  These are not only for originating from Europe as all the destinations are valid for both directions.  Awards allow the origin/destination in Europe to be in zones 1, 2, and 3, basically meaning that these awards are valid from/to anywhere in Europe. The registration for linking your SPG and Delta SkyMiles accounts to benefit of the Crossover Rewards is now open at either SPG’s website here or Delta’s website here. You only have to link your accounts once. If you have Delta flights coming in on early March or SPG stays, you should register now to start earning extra SkyMiles and Starpoints.

Hilton has a new 30% off of Bed & Breakfast rate promotion for select properties in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Indian Ocean & Asia Pacific. The offer needs to be booked 30 days in advance between February 14 and May 14, 2013, for stays up to December 31, 2013. This rate requires a prepayment of 30% at the time of bookings. You can access this offer here.

Some of the rates don’t look that great. You should always check the “Corporate Benefits Employee Offer”, “Hilton Public Sector Offer for Europe” and “Little League”. These may yield better rates and be cancelable compared to this 30% off of a Bed & Breakfast rate. [click to continue…]

Last week, I had a LoyaltyLobby reader emailing me about the luggage he had seen on my YouTube hotel videos. (I have more than 220 hotel room/suite videos on LoyaltyLobby’s YouTube channel that you can access here.)

My personal preference is to travel as light as possible and I have managed just with my Black 22″ (type of carry-on that is “legal” with the airlines) for couple of years. I only check it, if I absolutely have to. It is way “overweight” in regards to what you are normally allowed to bring as a carry on, but airlines (full service ones) rarely weigh these. Delta and Starwood are announcing later today their partnership of bringing Westin Heavenly In-Flight Bedding to BusinessElite flights starting this summer. There was interesting article on NY Times about this that you can access here.

This is likely part of the greater partnership between Starwood and Delta that started with the Crossover Rewards announcement earlier this month. I first broke the story about this new type of partnership with Delta and Starwood on February 5. You can read more about Crossover Rewards here that is starting on March 1. [click to continue…]
