Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) and Delta announced today the Crossover Rewards that SPG elite members can take advantage of when flying on Delta and Delta Medallion benefits when staying at Starwood hotels. I originally wrote about the Crossover Rewards on January 21 and almost a complete review of the benefits the other day.

SPG Gold and Platinum Benefits on Delta

For SPG Platinum members, the benefits received on Delta flights are comparable to Delta Silver Medallion ones without space available domestic upgrades.

– SPG Gold and Platinum members receive 1 Starpoint for every dollar spent on Delta

– SPG Platinum members receive priority check in, priority boarding and free checked bag

Delta Silver/Gold/Platinum Diamond Benefits when Staying on Starwood Properties

For Platinum and Diamond Medallion’s, the on property benefits on Starwood hotels are comparable to SPG Gold ones.

– SkyMiles Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond members receive 1 mile for every dollar spent on room rates globally

– SkyMiles platinum and Diamond members receive SPG elite check in line access, complimentary internet, 4PM check out, and room upgrades.

If you are SPG Gold or Platinum member and Delta elite, the only benefit for you is the ability to earn 1 SkyMile for every dollar spent on room rate and 1 Starpoint for every dollar spent on Delta flights.

The space available Delta flight upgrades for SPG Platinum members that was included on the version of the terms and conditions that I had access to earlier, is not not included in this final version.

What are the benefits for SPG members?

The vast majority of the SPG Platinum members must have an elite status with one or more airline. If that airline is not Delta, this probably makes easier for i.e. United or American elite to have few Delta flights when they can get priority ground treatment and free checked bag.

What are the benefits for Delta Medallion’s?

The same also applies for Platinum and Diamond Medallion’s. Most of the Platinum and Diamond members must already have some status with hotel programs. But if they don’t have SPG status, having complimentary internet and 4PM check out are tangible benefits that may swing some to stay at Starwood property.

Conclusion

I have to applaud SPG trying to introduce more benefits for SPG Gold and Platinum members and same goes for Delta as well. We’ll have to find out how this is going to work out in reality.

The only benefit for me is that I will start received one SkyMile per dollar spent on my SPG stays.
