Marriott Rewards has just launched their 2013 summer promotion “Unexpected Bonus” for stays between May 15 and September 2, 2013. You need to register for this promotion by July 31. You can access this promotions here.

You can find out your targeted version by logging to your Marriott Reward’s account and going to Promotion Central. The new offer should be the featured one on the left column.

Six Targeted “Unexpected Bonus” Offers

1. Category 1-5 Free Night Certificate After Two Stays (Max 2)

You can earn maximum of two category 1 to 5 free night certificates each after two stays.

2. Category 1-4 Free Night Certificate After Two Stays (Max 3)

You can earn maximum of three category 1 to 4 free night certificates each after two stays.

3. 25K Bonus Points After 15 Nights + 10K Bonus After 20 Nights

You can earn 25,000 bonus points after 15 nights + 10,000 additional bonus points after 20 nights for maximum of 35,000 bonus points.

4. 25K Bonus Points After 15 Nights + 2K Per Night For Additional Nights (Max 45K Bonus)

You can earn 25,000 bonus points after 15 nights + 2000 bonus points per night for additional nights beyond 15 nights for maximum bonus of 45,000 points.

5. 35K Bonus Points After 20 Nights + 10K Bonus After 25 Nights (Max 45K Bonus)

You can earn 35,000 bonus points after 20 nights + 10,000 additional bonus points after 25 nights for maximum total of 45,000 bonus points.

6. 35K Bonus Points After 20 Nights + 2K Per Night For Additional Nights (Max 55K Bonus)

You can earn 35,000 bonus points after 20 nights + 2,000 bonus points per night for additional nights beyond 20 nights for maximum bonus of 55,000 points.

Changing Targeted Offer

The base line offer is the free night certificate after two stays for category 1 to 4 properties for maximum of three free nigh certs. If you are Marriott elite member, the offer in your Promotion Central is likely one of the bonus points ones.

Conclusion

Not sure about the “Unexpected” part of the summer promotion. There really isn’t anything unexpected about these choices. I am glad, however, that there is only two week gap between the promotions.

    Hi John,

    I got both the Unexpected bonus and the Springhill Suites targeted offers. The offers have overlapping dates and I have registered for both. Now, if I stay at 2 Springhill properties within the period, which bonus would I get? The free night or the 5000 points? I highly doubt I would get both, right?

      You can double dip. I have done it few times in the past when Marriott has had overlapping targeted bonuses and chain wide promo.

    Hi John – along with several recent offers you have mentioned from Marriott, my promotional central is sadly empty – with the statement “No new promotions”. This is to the point that I have virtually given up booking with Marriott – the last eligible promotion I had required 15 stays in a short period of time for the first attainment level – and the Marriott’s were always fully booked in the NE USA when I travelled there. Any ideas on why Promotion Central is not showing available promotions? Thanks

      You need to call Marriott Rewards (call the US number) and ask them to sign you up for one of the variants above. They can do it manually.

    Tried to find an answer to this but can’t! Would “valid through September 2nd” include a stay September 2 to 3? I am planning to book the same hotel for 31/8 and 2/9 if this would work. Thanks.

      That is a good question. The word “for stays between” May 15 and September 2 would indicate not. Call Marriott Rewards and ask. Remember to come back and tell what they told you.

        We’re doing something similar (two separate stays on 30 Aug and 2 Sept). I E-mailed Marriott and this is what they said:

        “The last day of the promotion is September 2, 2013. You would have to check-in on September 2 for it to be a qualifying stay.”
