SPG Gold Status After One Stay In Asia For World & World Elite MasterCard Holders

The promotion for complimentary SPG Gold status in the Asia Pacific region after one stay has returned. This offer is targeted to World or World Elite MasterCard holders and this time you need to input the first six digits of the card number to enroll for this promotion. Last time just signing up for the promotion was enough.

This offer is valid until July 13, 2015, and you can access SPG’s website for this offer and register here.

The terms and conditions state that you would need to use World or World Elite MasterCard to settle the hotel bill, but this wasn’t enforced last time around. I doubt that the information about payment method used is ever transferred to Starwood from the Asia Pacific properties.

The terms state that the stay must be at participating property, but practically ALL SPG properties in the region do participate to this offer, so SPG has not produced a list like last time about the participating properties.

If you do not have eligible MasterCard, you can always probe your friends & family for the first six digits of their card (or use Google or Google Image search).

Conclusion

All these hotel chains are trying to sign up more members in the Asia Pacific region and those with credit cards are obvious target group.

If you have an eligible stay coming up at a SPG property in the Asia Pacific, I would sign up and take advantage of this promotion. The main benefits of the SPG Gold status are 4PM check out (non-resort and non-convention properties), welcome gift, some extra Starpoints, and upgrades.

On a side note, I have stayed at the St. Regis Lhasa resort two years ago, when I was checking out the Tibet. Was at the time and likely still is the best hotel in the city.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

Participation in the Promotion constitutes acceptance of and agreement with these Terms of Promotion.

The Promotion is valid only for World and World Elite MasterCard cardholders with residence in Asia Pacific who are enrolled as Starwood Preferred Guest® Program members (“SPG Members”) at the Preferred Guest® Tier, and who have registered for the Promotion, qualified with an eligible stay and made full payment for the eligible stay and all services during the eligible stay with a World and World Elite MasterCard (Qualified SPG Members”).

To enjoy the complimentary upgrade to Starwood Preferred Guest® Gold Tier membership, eligible SPG Members must first register for the Promotion and then make one eligible stay in any of the hotels or resorts within the Asia Pacific region that are owned, managed or franchised by the Starwood Group before 13 July 2015, and make full payment for the eligible stay and all services during the eligible stay with a World MasterCard.

An eligible stay is defined as one (1) or more consecutive nights stay paying a qualifying rate at any Starwood Participating Property regardless of the number of check-ins or check-outs that occur, and posted to the Qualified SPG Member’s Starwood Preferred Guest® account. A qualifying rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints® in the Starwood Preferred Guest® Program. Definition of Eligible Rates can be found at www.spg.com/t&c under section 4B.4.

Upgrade to Starwood Preferred Guest® Gold Tier Membership will take place up to 4 weeks after the eligible stay posts to the Qualified SPG Members’ account and the SPG Gold Membership pack will be mailed out in 4 to 6 weeks.

I tried this a while back and received an email with a large Congratulations. Thought they auto upgraded me to Gold without the stay. But unfortunately that was not the case.

There are just not enough Hyatts in Europe, and many of the ICs are old! Anyone know of an SPG Plat fast track?

I have written about the SPG PLT status match/challenge. Nothing has changed,

      • lsed

Ahh yes I do recall seeing that post now.

Will consider trying it out. Thanks!

I will likely do updates to all those articles in July.

            Hi John,
Have you updated the SPG plat articles yet?

          • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

            Not yet.

          • Mike

            Did it work?

  • Singing Dwarf

I think that your link is bad – it should be http://www.spg-asiapacific.com/worldmastercardgold/en/

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

There was a one dot (.) that I had to remove from the link above. Thanks!

I’m trying to sign up with my MasterCard World and it says the first 6 digits are incorrect….

    • Granny81

I had the same issue when I stumbled across this offer. I emailed spg and told them the same, reply from them was that they had signed me up for the promotion. I didn’t have to give them the 1st 6 digits either. Just completed my required stay at aloft KL Sentral, used a Visa card to settle the account. Hopefully it works.

      • catherine yang

        did it work?

    • Alexandre Nappez

      Try 559318, it works ;)

Does someone know what the 1st 6 digits could be ? Tried a few combinations but it did not work :-(

  • KATERGOO

Thanks ! This number works !

I have one paid night and 2 points + cash nights coming up in the US later this year at SPG properties. I’m Australia based, do you think it would be worth a mattress run before going to get Gold for the trip?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

If you need 4PM check out, it would be likely cheaper to do one staycation and get the Gold status. The Gold should be valid until 2015 (I think).

  • Mod

    Hi John,
Do they enforce the Asia-Pacific address?
The strange this is that the message I got after registering was that I was already registered (I guess from last time). I just never got around to stay a night at an SPG in Asia.
    Thanks

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

It is unlikely that you would be successful without an APAC address.

  • ma’am

is there a minimum # of nights to qualify for a “stay”. could one feasibily do this with a one-night stay?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

The stay can be as short as one night.

  • catherine yang

    thanks for the information.
I am going to Osaka Japan and booked the sheraton buy 2 nights and get 1 night free feature offer. is this an eligible rate?
if i would like to upgrade my preferred member to gold status, can i register the world mastercard number 559318 and then settle in non-world mastercard?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

      Should work without a hitch.

      • catherine yang

what about the first question? is my buying 2 nights and get 1 night free rate eligible?

        • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

All the rates that are eligible stay/night credits and Starpoints are eligible for this offer as well.

  • Jay

Signed up for this using a MC number provided online. Made sure to change my address first, to look like it was in Asia.

Paid for my Asian stay with my Amex, points posted 2 days after my stay. Status upgraded to Gold a week later.

    Thanks for the tip!

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Nothing wrong with leaving the Asian address for a while, if you can.

      • Jason

Any word on method of reservation? for example, can/should I use spg.com to make a pre-paid reservation? or should I use a flexible rate and pay at the hotel? I’d prefer to use a non world master card, as others have posted…

        • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Shouldn’t matter at all (unless SPG has somehow changed how they track the eligibility).

  • Jason

I would like to take advantage of this offer and will be visiting Japan in May 2014. On which system do I need to change my address? SPG or with my World MasterCard? or both?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

SPG. (See the comment below about the card that some have used to pay for the stay. Doesn’t seem to matter at all.)
