Happy to see your post! Just received this offer in a Rapid Rewards email. Any idea if these miles count toward earning a companion pass? (Purchased w/ Chase SW card). I’ve read most of the details, but not seeing anything specifically addressing companion pass.

    • The other member already commented that these hadn’t posted as CPQ last year. You will get usual points for buying these using Chase Southwest Visa. If you would buy these using Chase Marriott CC, it would qualify as Marriott spend.

The 12,000 points don’t count toward CP, but you’ll get 2,000 points that do qualify for buying the card. You get double points for hotel purchases. So you should actually be getting 14,000 points for the card.

They don’t count toward companion pass. This is the same promotion as last year. I bought $1000 and got 12000 points posted as bonus points which didn’t count toward companion pass. they can be converted into 10 airtran credits. You need 8 credits to get a one-way ticket.

      Thanks for the response!

BTW this is a very lucrative offer, amounting to a 20% discount. Much better than the 10% Amtrak offer.

  • al zhou

Of course you max out both offers. Those cards don’t expire.

How does this compare to the United promotion they are also offering as well?

    • There are three offers right now:
      Amtrak: 10% Bonus
      United: 5 Miles per USD
Southwest: 12 Rapid Rewards per USD

Southwest is the best IF you fly on them and can use for competitive Wanna Getaway fares.

The 10% premium or 5 United miles is a wash (again depends how you use the miles). I would be inclined to choose the 10% bonus, however.

Is the gift card a physical gift card that I have to wait to come in the mail? Was hoping to use this for an upcoming hotel stay next week.

Do these gift cards cover room taxes etc at checkout? Or are they only for the room per night rate? Thanks.

    • Deb

Also, can the gift cards be used for resort fee? Thanks again!

      • You can use these gift cards to pay for all folio expenses at Marriott family of hotels including taxes and resort fees.

Thanks John! I bought $1000 card for an upcoming trip to San Juan! 14,000 Southwest points and the card will pay for my entire stay! This is the second GREAT tip I have gotten from you [Accor Hotel Platinum status was the first one]. I owe you a drink should our paths cross!!

          • There are sometime uninformed front desk employees that may not know how to process these. My advise would be to apply it at the check in as a prepayment or to go the night before you leave to have it applied to your folio. If you apply it before check out, make sure that you get a receipt that shows that the amount has been applied to your room/account.

I know I have to wait for the gift card to come in the mail but how long will it take the SW points to post?

    • I have no personal experience on this, as I have always chosen either the discount or the premium. I would imagine few weeks?

      • Little Tea Blog

Do you think this is still worthwhile given the recent SW points devaluation (assuming I don’t use the points until after March)

        • If you can get good value out from Rapid Rewards points, the yes. Otherwise, wait for a next promo that should be active sometime in November.
