IHG Rewards Club Promotion: 2000 Bonus Points For Stays Of 2 Nights In Dubai

IHG Rewards Club send a tweet regarding 2,000 bonus points that they are offering for stays of two nights or longer at participating hotels in Dubai between August 1 and September 30, 2013. You can access IHG Rewards Club’s web page for this promotion here.

The terms and conditions don’t indicate that you would need to book any specific points package to be eligible for the bonus points:

Must be an IHG® Rewards Club member to participate in this promotion. Bonus points will be awarded on every qualifying stay at InterContinental Dubai Festival City, Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City, Crowne Plaza Dubai – Deira, Crowne Plaza Dubai, Holiday Inn Dubai Downtown, Holiday Inn Bur Dubai – Embassy District, Holiday Inn Dubai Al Barsha, and Holiday Inn Sharjah between 1 August and 30 September 2013. A stay is defined as one night or consecutive nights at the same hotel, regardless of frequency of check-in/out. A stay is qualified when paying qualifying rates, which include most business and leisure rates. Only one room per member per night will be awarded the applicable bonus points or miles. Subject to standard IHG Rewards Club programme Terms and Conditions. Visit ihgrewardsclub.com for details on airline miles earning structure. Airline programme terms and conditions apply.

But I truly doubt that this is the case as the rate drop down menu has the following rate plan using the IKPC7 rate code that is embedded on the link:

This would indicate that you do need to book this specific “2,000 Bonus Points Package: 2,000 Bonus Points for Any 2 Nigh Stay” rate plan to be eligible for the bonus.

Rate example

When I tried to search for availability using this rate plan the above error message was the most common return.

I was able to find the 2,000 bonus points rate plan for one two night weeknight stay. The rate per night was 600 AED (1200 AED for two nights) versus 473 AED per night (946 AED total).

You would essentially pay 254 AED ($69) + tax for those 2,000 bonus points that you can buy directly from IHG for $14.

Conclusion

The terms and conditions of this promotion are extremely misleading. They lead you to believe that ANY two night stay would be eligible for 2,000 bonus points that is not likely the case. These bonus points are, or have always previously been, associated with the special rate plan that you must book. The direct link to IHG’s booking engine supports this assertion.

It makes no sense to book this bonus points rate plan. If you really need more points, it is far cheaper to by them directly from IHG.

Here are again the terms and conditions that I have also included above:
