IHG Rewards Club has a new buy points promotion for all elite members (Gold, Platinum, Ambassador & Royal Ambassador) for 100% purchase bonus for all points purchases between now and August 26, 2013.
The maximum number of points that you can buy under this offer is the yearly maximum of 60,000 points and you will get another 60,000 bonus for total of 120,00 points. You can access this offer on IHG’s website here. (The link to IHG’s website has been fixed.)
The price of the 120K IHG Rewards Club points would be $690. The price of a point under this offer is 0.575 cents each or $0.00575.
Does it make sense to buy?
If you can use these for Point Breaks stays or if you have stays coming up at the most expensive hotels that are 50K points per night, the answer is likely yes.
The price of a point under this offer is about the same as with the recent Daily Getaways sale that was restricted to US billing addresses only. This sale is IHG Rewards Club (handled by Points.com) and available for members worldwide.
I do earn enough IHG Rewards Club points from my stays, so I don’t have personal need to buy more points. This is, however, good offer to buy points IF you can use them wisely.
Remember that you can always buy IHG Rewards Club points at 0.7 cents each by doing Points & Money reservation and later canceling it.
Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:
