I wrote back in April (read more here) that the hotel would close in August and undergo renovations lasting 18 months. This information came from the on property management. Seems that they need to do more fixing than originally planned.

Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and PT. Wynncor Bali, owners of Bali Hyatt, would like to announce that Bali Hyatt will undergo a large scale renovation program commencing as of November 14, 2013.  Bali Hyatt will not be accepting reservations beyond this date.

The renovation program will take approximately twenty four (24) months to complete and the newly renovated hotel will be renamed Hyatt Regency Bali.  We currently anticipate the Hyatt Regency Bali will be opened in the last quarter of 2015 and will update the website on any changes from the expected opening date.

We will contact the guests who have made reservations with us during the renovation period individually.

Above is the statement that the property has released on its website here.

Conclusion

I kinda like the Sanur area of Bali. It is nowhere near as commercial as Nusa Dua or Kuta/Seminyak areas. The property was becoming very dated, however, and the renovations were desperately needed to keep the hotel up to Hyatt standards.
