According to news sources, the airline had more than 200 names to choose from and settled on Vanilla  because, as the CEO of ANA puts it, everyone loves it. You can read more about this venture on Bloomberg article here.

Conclusion

If I would ever start an airline, I would name it after Caipirinha or Mojito. Vanilla is, let’s be honest, very neutral name.

Let’s hope that the AirAsia’s Indian venture with Tata group that us launching later this year is more successful than this joint venture with ANA.
