You have already been able to fly on Peach, partially owned by ANA too, and now ANA is renaming the former AirAsia Japan as Vanilla Air. AirAsia Japan was a joint venture between ANA and AirAsia that didn’t work out.
According to news sources, the airline had more than 200 names to choose from and settled on Vanilla because, as the CEO of ANA puts it, everyone loves it. You can read more about this venture on Bloomberg article here.
If I would ever start an airline, I would name it after Caipirinha or Mojito. Vanilla is, let’s be honest, very neutral name.
Let’s hope that the AirAsia’s Indian venture with Tata group that us launching later this year is more successful than this joint venture with ANA.
