IHG Rewards Club “Big Win” Fall 2013 Promotion Default Option

by John Ollila on August 25, 2013

IHG Rewards Club announced on Friday its fall 2013 “Big Win” promotion that is very similar to the “Crack the Case” promotion they had few years ago. IHG Rewards Club members get tailored offers based on their stay history for various hurdles and, if you complete them all, there is a bonus points bonanza at the end.

You can check your personalized version of this promotion by going ihgrewards.com/win.

Here’s the default version of the promotion for those that have not had any stay history with IHG:

Try One And Done

ihg-big-win-1-try-one-and-done

You get 1,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club points for your first stay.

Stay More And Earn More

ihg-big-win-2-stay-more-earn-more

You get 4,000 bonus points for staying four nights.

Explore Our Brands

ihg-big-win-3-explore-our-brands

There is 10,000 bonus points for staying at three different IHG brands.

Book With Us

ihg-big-win-4-book-with-us

You can get 2,000 bonus points for booking two stays at IHG’s website or mobile device.

Win In A Weekend

ihg-big-win-5-win-a-weekend

8,000 bonus points for staying two Saturday nights.

Win Big

ihg-big-win-6-win-big

You can get 25,000 bonus points for completing all the above mentioned tasks.

Conclusion

This default version is not bad at all and very achievable. You only need to have four stays (can be as few as four nights) during the promotional period, when done correctly, to collect the 50,000 bonus points

Don’t forget to leave a comment below about the personalized promotion that you were offered.

Here are the generic terms and conditions of this offer:

Must be an IHG® Rewards Club member and must register member number in advance to participate in this promotion. Number of bonus points or miles listed above will be awarded after the required number of qualifying room nights have been consumed by the member at the required number of distinct IHG brand hotels between 1 September 2013 and 31 December 2013 (both dates inclusive) at InterContinental®, Crowne Plaza®, Hotel Indigo®, Holiday Inn®, Holiday Inn Express®, Staybridge Suites®, Candlewood Suites®, Even® or Hualuxe® hotels worldwide. A stay is defined as one night or consecutive nights at the same hotel, regardless of frequency of check-in/out. A stay constitutes a qualifying stay when paying qualifying rates, which include most business and leisure rates. Only one room per member per stay will be awarded the applicable bonus points or miles. No retroactive points or miles will be awarded for stays prior to registration. You must be a miles collector with a preferred alliance in order to collect miles. Frequency/ partner credits may be issued in currencies other than miles. Click here for a list of all participating airlines. All airline program terms and conditions apply. Please allow up to 4 to 6 weeks for points or miles to be credited after checkout. This offer is subject to standard IHG Rewards Club terms and conditions and earning structure, which can be obtained by visiting www.ihgrewardsclub.com. This exclusive offer is valid and applies to the original recipient only.

That is the exact same offer that was offered to me, and after asking around it seems like that’s the default offer to those who haven’t stayed much with IHG.

And it does seem like it can be done in 4 nights over 9 days (2 Saturdays)

    • Shawn

I’m glad I got such a good offer, but at the same time, I feel for those who have been status members for much longer and received much stingier offers :/

      • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

The requirement for those that have had lots of IHG stays is onerous.

  • ulus

I’m a Gold elite member with 18 nights this year, been a member for 7yrs.

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Good that the City Life locations work for you.

      • Steven Grant

I can get the London one easy with work, might be able to get the Paris or Amsterdam one via work too. If not can combine UK Birmingham with a personal Sat night stay and possibly even another brand visit, for a 3x combo!

  • Airbear

Feel like I have drawn a short straw here:
    Try 1 & done = 1000

Eat it Up = $350 spend on food for 1900
Get away with a win = 1 night in a SE Asian Resort for 6000
    Win Big = 48000

close to 100,000 points if I get it done – but 17 stays over 3 continents!!! Bit of an ask!!

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

The South East Asia resort requirement is weird.

    Stay More (5 nights) – 6,700
    Explore (2) – 12K
    Survey – 100
Live the City Life (2 out of 4) – 8K
    Eat it up (56USD) – 800
    Win Big (All) – 29K

  • Dima

So if you select American miles, you would get 50k miles? That’s awesome :-D
    Or am I wrong here?

    • Aaron

The points you can ‘win’ are IHG Reward Points, not airline miles. You can however, convert those points to airmiles at a 5:1 conversion rate. So in this case, that would give you 10.000 points. DO NOT select airline miles as your preffered earning, but convert them after earning them.

      • Aaron

        I meant 10.000 AA miles*

        • Dima

Aah, thanks… Would be strange otherwise.

    Wow – I lucked out.

    One and done – 1000
    Stay More – 10100 for 5 nights.

    Explore Brands – 33000 for 3 brands

    Book with us – 3600
    Survey – 100
Weekend Win – 7200 for 2 Saturday nights.

    Big Win – 55000

    110K total.

I’ve been a member since ’99 and Platinum for a year, but that was through buying points on the last Discover America buy (when they counted towards status)

I barely have to change my already (and only) planned hotel stays to get this – move across the street for a night to get an extra brand, and stay out at the airport instead of in town at another stay (it’s SLC; I don’t care.) – the value of the points essentially makes the stays free so I’ll definitely do it.

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Yeah. This is an excellent offer. 33K bonus for 3 brands?

  • KEI

Get out there – Stay at 2 locations in Europe – 7,200

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Did they list the resorts or anything that has “resort” in their name?

      • martin

on my challenge it’s a few properties in vacation destinations, not necessarily resort in the name

    Explore Brands (3) – 14,000
    Survey – 100

Put it on the card (1 stay)- 1,400
    Win Big (All) – 37K

    76,500 total

Do stays I booked for September previous to enrolling for the promotion count towards the promotion, or do I have to book after enrolling?

There is no requirement of having done the bookings during the promo period.

  • Bob

I have been a Priority Club Member for about 10 years, Platinum for about 6….
    Mine is a JOKE!!!
1 stay for the 1,000—pretty standard for everyone
17 nights for 10,600—(623 per night??? I see some are getting about 1,000 per night)
    5 Brands for 18,000
Stay in 2 locations that I hardly ever go for 7,200, only 7 cities in the US….
    4 Saturdays for 6,400
I ALWAYS book online so they did not offer me anything for online bookings
I was not offered anything for eating at the properties
My “WIN BIG” is 43,000 Bonus for a Grand total of a tad over 86,000…..
AND I NEVER COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYTHING…..I THINK I AM SCREWED…..

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Yeah. You get highly night requirement if you have had lot of stays.

  • Kyushuman

Mine seems on the lower end. Have been PC member for at least 10 years. Usually Platinum, often Platinum Ambassador. Here is my offer:
    1500 PC Visa
    4800 2 Saturday nights
    100 Survey
    2800 Book direct 3x
14,000 Stay in 3 different brands
    7,000 Stay 6 nights
    1000 one and done
    31,000 win big
Total: 62,200 points possible. I will probably do it–I do like that they offer such a long time to finish it!

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Yeah. This is one of the more reasonable ones without the “City Life” requirement that can be difficult to achieve.

  • http://kuponozaur.blogspot.com/ Rafał

Try one and done – 1,000
    Stay more & earn more – 6,700 (5 nights)
    Explore our brands – 22,000 (3 brands)
    Book with us – 2,400 (2 stays)
    Survey the win – 100
Live the city life – 7,200
    Win in a weekend – 4,800 (2 Saturdays)
    Win big – 44,000

    Total: 88,200

    So, quite nice! ;)

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

If the city life options work for you.

      • http://kuponozaur.blogspot.com/ Rafał

        Yep, quite ok.
Looks like I will have to go to Berlin for the third time this year. First time was with IHG BRG, then a mistake rate, and now this :)

  • Ohlradio

    I got:

    One and done: 1,000 points
    10 nights – 8,300 points
    4 brands – 24,000 points
    Survey – 100 points
Live the city life (2 stays certain locations in Vancouver, Montreal, Chicago, NYC, Denver, Mexico City, Sao Paolo, LA, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington) – 7,200 points
    Win in a weekend (2 Saturdays) – 4,800 points
    Win big – 45,000 points

The win a weekend and 4 brands are easiest, no chance at this point I’ll do them all, especially city life since they don’t offer Toronto.

  • martin

i love my offers, though the city life promotion seems to be offered only in japan and australia for me which i won’t be able to achieve, thus the big win with a total of a wopping 74000 is out of reach – otherwise, a total of 146600 is offered – wow…

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

They obviously want to make is challenging for most but not impossible.

  • Alex

I’m not albe to connect with this link ihgrewards.com/win, is because i’m from Italy? :-(

The site has been up/down every once in a while.

  • Evan

So it looks like my offer is similar to that of others; ~88,000 points altogether.

I have a question though. I have several reservations already made before this promotion was announced. When I stay, will I get credit towards the promotion? Will I get credit for staying and booking through the website? I hope old reservations will count, otherwise I will have to cancel and re-book which is a pain. If anyone has any info about this, please share.

    Thanks,
    Evan

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

There is no booking date requirement for this promo. Bookings made before registering do count as long as they are during the promotional period.

  • Evan

Oh, and as a side-note, the “Live The City Life” options are extremely easy to obtain. They basically said I can stay in any major US city, at any of their properties. Don’t be fooled by the few three that they show, click on “View All” and you will see hundreds of places you can stay.

    • Ohlradio

I checked the view all and posted the cities that I was offered in my list. I just wish they offered more major cities.

  • Peter

I have a question about “Live the City Life”
Do you have to stay in 2 different city or it can be two different hotels ( from the listed ) in one city?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

It refers to “locations” and not to hotels that would indicate different cities, but cannot be sure.

  • Vicky C

Ok, I think I am a total idiot, but I have the miles as an earnings preference (United), so my offers are in miles… is there any way to undo it?

Here is what I got (in miles):
Try one and done – 500
    Stay more & earn more – 1,000 (6 nights)
    Explore our brands – 4,000 (3 brands)
Live the city life – 2,000 (2 locations)
    Win in a weekend – 1,000 (2 Saturdays)
    Win big – 4,000

    Total = 12,500 miles
I guess that’s equivalent to 62,500 points, so I guess not too bad, right?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Ouch. Maybe if you switch the preference to points it will recalculate the offer?

  • ravegrunt

Mine aren’t bad for barely being Plat-

Try One and Done – 1000
Stay More and Earn More (12 Nights) – 9000
    Explore our Brands (3 Brands) – 14000 (!!)
    Book With Us (1) – 4000
    Survey the Win – 100
    Win in a Weekend (2 Sat) – 8000
    Win Big – 36000

Total of 72,100 – that is not bad at all!

If I book two rooms on the same Saturday night does that count? (One for me, one for the inlaws)

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Will count only as one stay.

  • blackbat

    My offer:

Try One and done – 1,000 points
    9 nights – 8,000 points
    2 brands – 12,000 points
Book with us – 4,000 points
    Survey – 100 points
    Win in a weekend (2 Saturdays) – 4,800 points
Eat it up (39 USD) – 600 points
    Win big – 31,000 points

A question, can I entitle to both “Win Big” offer and “China Dream” promotion at the same time?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Maybe but no guarantees and this question may be better not to be asked….

  • Jancker

I have to say I was rather pleased with my offer, considering the cities I think are achievable

Try one and done: 1,000 Points
Stay more and earn: 8 nights and 7,700 Points
Explore more brands: 2 different IHG brands 12,000 Points

Win in a weekend: 2 Saturday nights and 8,000 Points
Live the city life: 7,200 points
    Win big: 38,000
    Total: 76,300
City life cities: London, Birmingham, Paris, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, Rome, Madrid and Moscow

  • Shawn

Oh wow…am I just incredibly lucky?
    Try one: 1000
Stay more: 9600 for 4 nights
    Explore: 30k for 2 brands (!)
Book with us: 6000 for 2 stays

City life: 18k for 2 stays, many easy locations for me in Socal
    Weekend: 7200 for 2 Saturdays

    Total 148.2k

I’ve only been a member for 1 year, Plat from holding the Chase PC Visa.

  • Mark

So, the next big question is: will the 35% off and 2-4-1 rates count for this promotion, or only ‘Best Flexible’ rates?
    Mark

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

All rates that qualify for points do qualify under this promotion as well.

  • alwaysflying

    Try one: 1000
Stay more: 6700 for 5 nights
    Explore: 12k for 2 brands
Book with us: 4000 for 2 stays
    Survey: 100
City life: 12k for 2 stays
    Weekend: 4800 for 2 Saturdays
    Win big: 41k
    Total 81600

  • Alphascan

Just got mine. Unlike the crack the case mine is damn near impossible:-

    Stay once 1000

    Stay More 19 Nights 11,200

    Book 17 nights – 17,200

    6 brands 28,000

Get out there 2 nights – 7200 (USA & Brazil)

    stay 3 saturdays 5,600

    Big Win 66,000

Even if I could stay at 6 brands, the killer is the international (US) stays. I just don’t go to the states, not now anyway, I guess they know that and that’s why its there.

One thing that did cross my mind was whether it was worth it to book an advanced stay at an international hotel, over a weekend at another brand and just not show. I would get billed for the room and get the points and stays credited. However unless it was a seriously cheap rate I don’t think that this would work.

    Pity really

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

      No showing wouldn’t work.

  • KMO

    Try one: 1.000 points
Stay more and earn more: 20.600 points
    Explore our brand: 36.000 points
    Book with us: 3.600 points
    Survey the win: 100 points
Get out here: 10.800 points (Canada, US, Brazil and Mexico)
    Win big: 83.000 points
    Total : 165.900 points
Probably thanks to the fact i stayed more then 2 months in one of the IGH properties this year. The total points that can be earned is nearly equal to the elite qualifying points I earned in 2013.
I was just wondering if nights used with points count for this promotion as I have some nights coming up?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Award nights? They never count towards any promotions.

  • AJ

Do reward nights count towards some of these targets, i have some reward nights booked in the US, im from the UK, and for the ‘get out there’ promotion all my hotels are US based, but actually include some that im staying in anyway using reward nights. will these stays count?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Reward nights never count towards any of these promotions.

  • Jonas

Yeah, I think I got a pretty good one:

    Try one: 1000
    Stay more: 10,100 (5 nights)
    Explore: 18,000 !!! (2 brands)
Book at IHG: 6000 (2 stays)
    survey: 100
    city: 18,000 (2 stays)
    Weekend: 7,200 (2 saturdays)
    Win big: 60,000

    Total: 120,400

was gold last year, no elite status now

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

This is likely the best offer that I have seen IF the cities work for you.

  • Aaron

If you have registered for a different offer, say the one for 5000 bonus points as an elite member and you click on that ‘Book now’ link, do you think your stay will be counted towards The Big Win promotion also? Or just the 5k bonus points?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

I am not sure what 5K promotions that you are referring to, but these stays should count for other possible promotions as well.

  • Simon

Stay at any IHG hotel and receive 1,000 Points.
Stay a total of 6 nights and receive 10,600 Points
Complete a survey and receive 100 Points
Stay in 2 city hotels (chosen from a list given) and receive 18,000 points
Stay at 2 different IHG brands and receive 18,000 Points
Book 2 separate stays through an IHG® hotel website or mobile device and receive 6,000
Stay 2 Saturdays and receive 7,200 Points
Complete all the offers and receive 61,000 Points
    TOTAL 121,900

I just happen to be staying 6 nights in London in October, in 2 brands,
booked on the website/mobile, including two Saturdays, so just the
survey will give me 61,100 more points and a total of 121,90!

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

This is one of the better offers that I have seen.

  • KelownaJean

I am Gold, with no stays this year, but planning a 10 day road trip in Mexico in November, so am VERY happy with my offer:

    One stay = 1000 points
    8 nights = 11,500 points
    5 brands = 39,000 points
    2 Saturdays = 39,000 points
5 separate stays booked through website or phone app = 7,800 points
    One survey = 100 points
Complete all = extra 71,000 points
Total = 169,000 points (London, here we come!)
Because we are driving through a lot of small towns with no IHG properties, this will require one Saturday night mattress run before we leave, or when we return home, which will be well offset by the 39,000 + 71,000 bonus points!

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

This is likely the best offer that I have seen. The only difficult part is the 5 brands, but if you are in North America.

      • KelownaJean

Candlewood LAX, Staybridge Guadalajara, Crowne Plaza Tuxtla Gutierrez, HI San Cristobal de las Casas, HIX Tuxtla Gutierrez, HIX or CP Villahermosa, then back to HI Centro Historico Guadalajara! Am I correct that these points will qualify me for Platinum?

        • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

You have five brands there. Promotional points no longer count towards the elite status in 2013.

  • Cori

    Hi John,

IHG normally gives 500 China Airline miles for each stay. If my goal is to accumlate miles for china Airline, which is not a participating airline for Big Win, how does registering for the Big Win offer affect me? Their terms and conditions of Big Win say:

“IHG® Rewards Club members who collect airline miles with participating airlines will receive the number of miles as communicated in the offer. See below for list of participating airlines. Those members who collect airline miles from airlines not participating in this promotion will collect points for this promotion. At the end of the promotion the member can choose to have the points converted into miles by calling the service center.”

I saw someone commented that the points would be converted to miles at 5:1 ratio. If I just want to have 2 stays/nights, it seems like I would get 3000 points total from “try and done” and “book with us.” Does that mean I would only get 600 miles after conversion? Instead of 1000 miles by NOT participating in Big Win?

Thanks in advance for your insight!

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

These are bonus points/miles in addition to the regular points/miles you earn from your stays. I really do think that it is in general far better to earn IHG Rewards Club points instead of airline miles.

Is anybody else having trouble tracking this offer? T & Cs say that points take 4-6 weeks to post. However, you can’t see status of where you are on your offers. My Offers refers me to the Big Win page but this shows nothing complete or progress against nights, brands, etc despite the fact I have had stays. Crack the Case was very efficient to track and posted points as soon as requirement met.

  • Manuel Labor

Platinum Elite. I have 112 days to complete:

    1 stay-1,000 points
    11 nights total-8,600
    4 different brands-24,000
    Complete a survey-100
Two stays that include a Saturday night-8,000
    The Big Win-42,000

    That’s 83,700 points!! And I’m quite sure I can accomplish it. :-)
    Thanks!

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

This is quite nice and easy offer. Doesn’t have any difficult stay requirements.

For being platinum I think i have some pretty hard goals
    1 stay – 1000
    45 nights – 25900
    5 brands – 26000
    12 stays online or app – 9600
    Survey – 100 points
    2 Select city stays – 7200
    big win — 70000

    total 139,000
It will take a real select effort in my bookings to be able to reach such lofty goals. Did anyone else receive such a high number of nights ?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

This is about the most difficult one that I have seen.

    6 different brands-42,000
    4 different cities-14,400
Three stays that include a Saturday night-8,400
    The Big Win-92,000

    Total offer 183,700

I’m a Platinum member now and will be able to meet these goals so I will be racking up quite a bit of points with this.

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

It is 6,000 bonus points per night if you prorate the Big Win + all the other promotions that I have written about.

One of my challenges is: “Mix things up – Stay at 3 different IHG brands and receive 10,000 Points”. I already had onestay at Holiday Inn and one stay at Intercontinental. I am thinking about booking a stay at Holiday Inn Express. Does that count as a seperate brand or ist it seen as them same as Holiday Inn?
    Thanks for our help!

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express are considered separate brands for the purpose of this promotion.

  • moondog

    take survey – 100

    13 nights-9300
    2 major cities – 12000
    3 saturdays – 5000
    bonus for completion – 52000

First 4 were easy way to pick up 35,000 pts
Unfortunately, no reason to go to the cities on the list.
    .

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

Yeah. Some of the city requirements are tricky. Maybe you have a friend that could help in case they are not “expensive” cities?

  • shon.

Does anyone know if the “stay in 2 cities” requirement is a stay in two separate cities or can it be stays in the same city on that list just different properties?

    • http://loyaltylobby.com/ John O.

I remember seeing that someone had received credit for doing the same city twice, but you never know.
