SPG is indeed running targeted “Get Extra Credit” promotion for double night & stay credits for stays between July 15 and October 15, 2014.

SPG Get Extra Credit Promo

I wrote about this offer yesterday (access here), but wasn’t sure if this is an active promo. I can now confirm that it certainly is. Thanks for a LoyaltyLobby reader sending me the link to the terms and conditions.

You can try your luck of registering for this offer here.

Note that rewards or cash & points nights will not be doubled under this offer. This offer doesn’t count towards the number of lifetime nights earned or count towards the status qualification requirement under the lifetime program.

Conclusion

One could get SPG Platinum status in merely staying for 13 times during the promotional period and the status would be valid until 2016.

Starwood is certainly running number of targeted offers during this period. My favorite is the Select Member Exclusive (read more here) that is for free night certificates.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

Selected eligible members must register by August 31, 2014, 11:59 p.m. EDT. Member will earn double elite qualifying nights and stays at any of the more than 1100 SPG® participating properties between July 15, 2014, and October 15, 2014, but only after registration occurs. Promotion is not retroactive for nights/stays completed before registration. Non SPG participating properties can be found at spg.com under the program terms and conditions, section 1.2. An eligible stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights paying a qualifying rate in the same hotel regardless of the number of check-ins or checkouts that occur and post to the member’s Starwood Preferred Guest® account after registration. A qualifying rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints® in the Starwood Preferred Guest program. A description of a qualifying rate can be found at spg.com. Eligible nights will be counted based on the actual night they occur, while eligible stays will be tracked by the date member checks in and not the date the member checks out. Free Night Awards and Cash & Point stays and nights are not eligible as part of this promotion. The bonus elite qualifying nights that post to the member’s account as result of the offer will not count toward SPG Lifetime™ status nights requirements. Members upgraded to elite status solely as a result of the bonus elite qualifying stays or nights posted will not have a year of elite status count toward SPG Lifetime qualification, unless the member achieves the typical required stays and nights needed for elite status. This offer is not combinable with any other stay or night acceleration offers.

All promotions are subject to the Starwood Preferred Guest program terms and conditions, which are subject to change without notice and can be found at spg.com. Offer is applicable to individual members only and not to groups. Not responsible for omissions or typographical errors. Starwood reserves the right to discontinue this offer at any time. I just tried to register, and it said that I wasn’t eligible for the offer.

    • This is a targeted offer.

which offer is better? this one or go with the platinum challenge ?

    • You can get it faster this way IF you were targeted. The challenge requires 18 nights.

Judging by the comments on the other thread (and my experience), Plats were intentionally excluded

    • They target inactive accounts. Trying to win business from members that have probably abandoned the chain or just haven’t stayed for a while.
