SPG has launched “Great Eight Challenge” promo for members in the Greater China (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau & Taiwan) for elite nights, 15,000 bonus Starpoints and a surprise gift.

SPG Great Eight Challenge Main

The promotion is valid for stays from January 1 to December 31, 2014, but you must register for it by November 30.

You can access and register for this offer here.

SPG Great Eight Challenge

Members that stay at six of the nine SPG brands get 5 elite nights and those that stay at eight receive 15,000 bonus points and a surprise gift.

Starwood has nine hotel brands (Aloft, Element, Four Points, Le Meridien, Sheraton, St. Regis, Luxury Collection, W and Westin) of which eight are represented in the greater China. There is no requirement for the eligible stays to have been in the greater China, however, and thus Element brand does count as well.

You can track your eligible says starting on October 10, 2014, using SPG Great Eight Challenge tracker.

Conclusion

This reminds me of a gift that Starwood extended to those that visited all their 9 brands the other year (read more here). This offer, however, is only available for those that have their account set up in the Greater China.

I just registered for this offer and have had eligible paid stays at 6 of the 9 SPG brands so far this year. Will definitely do two stays at Element, St. Regis and W brands to get the 15,000 bonus points. As a matter of fact, I could already do them this coming weekend, but will probably wait till I am back in Asia next month.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

This promotion is available to any SPG® member who is a resident of Greater China: Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan (“Eligible SPG member”).

Eligible SPG member must register at spg.com/stayeight by 30 November 2014, 11:59pm EST. After completing a stay at hotels and resorts under any six of the nine Starwood-owned brands (Aloft®, ElementSM, Four Points® by Sheraton, Le Méridien®, Sheraton®, St. Regis®, The Luxury Collection®, W® and Westin®) during the Promotion Period (as defined below), eligible SPG members can earn five elite-qualifying nights. Eligible SPG members who have stays under eight Starwood brands can additionally earn 15,000 bonus Starpoints® and a gift.

To receive your gift, be sure to include your mobile phone number and confirm your mailing address in your spg.com profile, and complete eligible stays at hotels and resorts representing eight Starwood brands during the Promotion Period. Starwood is not responsible for any failure to mail you the gift if there is no valid mobile number provided.

Promotion Period: 1 January until 31 December 2014. Eligible stays must be completed by 31 December 2014. All eligible stays consumed in 2014, beginning on 1 January 2014, count towards your total for the rewards. Register by 30 November 2014. Promotion is not transferable. Bookings made prior to the Promotion Period are eligible, but only eligible stays consumed during the Promotion Period will earn a bonus.

An eligible stay is a stay with at least one eligible paid night at any of the over 1,100 participating Starwood hotels and resorts paying an eligible paid rate during the Promotion Period. An eligible rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest® programme. Free Night Awards and Cash & Point stays and nights are not eligible as part of this promotion. A listing of SPG-participating hotels and resorts and a description of eligible stays and eligible rates can be found at spg.com under the programme terms and conditions. See Section 1.4 for the complete definition of eligible rates, but note that certain prepaid rooms where the booking is made through a third party (including but not limited to travelocity.com, Expedia.com, booking.com or other third-party booking sites) are not eligible rates and do not earn Starpoints or qualify towards promotional earnings.

Bonus elite-qualifying nights will be credited to the member’s account 4–6 weeks after promotion ends on 31 December 2014. The bonus elite-qualifying nights that post to the member’s account as result of the offer will not count towards SPG Lifetime™ status nights requirements. Bonus elite qualifying nights do count towards annual elite-qualification earnings and towards achieving nights-based benefits at 50, 75 and 100 nights annually.

This promotion may be combined with other promotions in market during the same time; however, earnings are exclusive of each other.

you have to stay at those brands in china

    • Nope. Read the second screen shot. Stays WORLDWIDE qualify.

  • Unfortunately, you’re not eligible for this promotion. Don’t worry, there are still a lot of Starpoints® to be earned. Visit spg.com to get our Best Rate Guarantee and check out our other special offers and promotions.

    • Your SPG account must be in one of the Greater China countries. Not sure if switching your address now there would work.

Mine was set up as being in mainland China from the beginning but every time I try to sign up it tells me to check my SPG number and retype it even though it’s the exact same number I copy-pasted from my e-mailed SPG account statement. Any ideas?

    • I would do a chat with SPG and ask them to sign you up manually. Then remember to copy paste the chat just in case there are issues later.

      • LlamaOfDoom

Didn’t even have to do the chat, the issue resolved itself today. Guess it was just something going on in the background at the time.

Hi John, it seems that the terms and conditions have now been updated: This promotion is available to any SPG® member who is a resident of Greater China including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and has a valid Greater China address on his/her SPG member profile before August 18, 2014 . Member must not have changed a non-Greater China address to a Greater China address on his/her SPG member profile between August 18, 2014 and the cut off date of this promotion registration. (“Eligible SPG member”).

    • Well. Seems that they weren’t prepared this promo going “public” outside of the intended area.

Thanks for letting us all know!
