Hilton HHonors is following Hyatt (read more here), Marriott (read more here) and Starwood (read more here) by offering lifetime Diamond status.

Hilton Lifetime Diamond Requirements

Hilton sent out a cryptic email late last year (read more here) requesting some members to confirm their details and the URL revealed the reason to be this lifetime program and later confirmed by this (read more here).

You can access Hilton’s web page for the requirements here.

and

2. 1,000 paid Hilton nights

Lifetime Diamond Status will be awarded to select HHonors members, who as of December 31st, 2014 have earned Diamond Status for at least 10 years (non-consecutive) and who have completed stays totaling at least 1,000 paid nights pursuant to the standard HHonors Terms & Conditions. Once earned, standard HHonors Terms & Conditions apply. Lifetime Diamond Status is granted at the discretion of HHonors Worldwide, LLC and may be ended, or amended with or without notice or compensation, at HHonors’ sole discretion

Hyatt lifetime Diamond requirements (read more here) are 10 years as a Diamond program member and $200,000 in spend credited towards points

Starwood lifetime Platinum requires (read more here) 10 years as a Platinum members and 500 nights (all elite qualifying nights count)

Marriott lifetime Platinum requires (read more here) 750 elite qualifying nights (can be from all the sources) and 2,000,000 Marriott Rewards points earned (can be from all the sources)

Conclusion

Hilton HHonors certainly hasn’t make it easy to qualify for their Diamond lifetime status. The 10 years as a Diamond members is inline what other programs require but the 1,000 paid nights is not. That is practically 3 years of your life spent at Hilton properties.

It is surprising that Hilton has not decided to offer lifetime Gold status like both Marriott and Starwood do.

Personally, I am on my way to both Marriott and Starwood Platinum lifetime statuses, but the night requirement of this Hilton lifetime Diamond s so high that it is a deterrent for me to even consider qualifying. I rather spread out my stays over number of chains to work the promotions and to pick and choose the properties offering the best elite treatment.
