Starwood Preferred Guest Uber Partnership During Stay

Note that you cannot earn Starpoints for your Uber rides if you have not had at least one eligible Starwood stay during the current calendar year. For rides in January, an eligible stay during the preceding year is required.

February 28, 2015, Promotion For 15,000 Bonus Starpoints In New York, San Francisco, London, Dubai & Mexico City

Uber will have SPG branded car in above mentioned markets on February 28, 2015, during the hours of 2PM to 7PM local time. If you happen to get one, your ride will be free and you will also receive 15,000 bonus Starpoints. SPG estimates that 460 passengers would be eligible to receive this onetime bonus.

Conclusion

I consider this to be basically a 2% discount of my Uber rides in form of 1 Starpoint per USD charged on their rides. Does it make me more inclined to use their services? Maybe or maybe not. Not too happy with the information shared with SPG from Uber’s side.

SPG would learn from my Uber data that I use the service in many cities where I am not staying at their hotels.

By registering to participate in the SPG-Uber Benefits Program, you agree to the SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms.

SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms

These terms and conditions (the “SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms”) govern the SPG-Uber benefits program (the “SPG-Uber Benefits Program”). By registering for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program and receiving and redeeming benefits of the SPG-Uber Benefits Program, including, without limitation, Starpoints®, each registrant (a “Participant”) agrees that he/she has read, understood and accepted these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (“Starwood”) and Uber Technologies, Inc. (“Uber”) may at any time amend, modify or supplement these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms, and continued participation in the SPG-Uber Benefits Program will constitute a Participant’s acceptance of any such amendment, modification, or supplementation.

  1. Registering for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program.
    1. Eligibility: Registration for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program requires that an individual have an active SPG® Member account as well as an Uber account and that such individual’s SPG Member account and Uber account are under the same name and use the same email address. Individuals may register for an SPG Member account for free atwww.spg.com, and may register for an Uber account for free at www.uber.com or through the Uber mobile application, respectively.
    2. Limitations on Eligibility: An individual that has an SPG employee level account will not be eligible to register for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program.
    3. Registration: An individual may register for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program through www.spg.com/uber only. Individuals will not be allowed to register for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program by contacting the SPG Customer Contact Center.
    4. Timing:
      1. Registration: An eligible Participant will not be able to earn Starpoints or receive benefits under these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms (regardless of eligibility to register), until 24 hours after all criteria for earning Starpoints as set forth in Section 2.2 of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms are completed.
      2. Posting of Starpoints: Any base Starpoints earned through the SPG-Uber Benefits Program pursuant to Section 2.2 of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms will post to the applicable SPG Member account within 2 to 4 weeks after the applicable Uber Usage is completed. Any bonus Starpoints earned through the SPG-Uber Benefits Program pursuant to Section 2.3 of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms will post to the applicable SPG Member account within 2 to 4 weeks after the applicable Stay has been posted to the applicable SPG Member account.
    5. SPG Program Terms: Unless otherwise specified in these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms, the terms and conditions of the SPG Program, which can be found at http://www.spg.com/terms (the “SPG Program Terms & Conditions”) apply to the SPG-Uber Benefits Program.
    6. Uber Terms: Unless otherwise specified in these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms, Uber’s terms and conditions, which can be found at https://www.uber.com/legal/usa/terms (the “Uber Terms & Conditions”), apply to the SPG-Uber Benefits Program.
    7. Definitions: To the extent that terms are capitalized in these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms, the terms have the meanings specified in the SPG Program Terms & Conditions. This includes, without limitation, the definitions of SPG Program, Stays, Gold Preferred Guest and Platinum Preferred Guest.
  2. Earning Starpoints.
    1. Relevant Definitions: For purposes of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms:
      1. “Calendar Year” means any time between 12:00 A.M. local time on January 1st of any year and 11:59 P.M. local time on December 31st of the same year; provided that for purposes of determining whether a Participant had a Stay posted to his/her SPG Member account during the current Calendar Year, any Stays that were posted to such Participant’s SPG Member account during the immediately prior Calendar Year will count as a Stay during the current Calendar Year for the period of time between 12:00 A.M. local time on January 1st and 11:59 P.M. local on January 31st of the current Calendar Year;
      2. “Stay Eligibility Period” means any time between the date (which includes 12:00 A.M. through 11:59 P.M. local time of such date) that the Participant checks in for a Stay and the date (which includes 12:00 A.M. through 11:59 P.M. local time of such date) that the Participant checks out from such Stay; and
      3. “Uber Usage” means a single use of the following Uber’s products worldwide: UberX, UberBLACK, UberSUV, UberEXEC, UberLUX, UberPOP, UberPOOL and UberFAMILY (collectively, the “Uber Services”) (1) that is booked by a Participant using such Participant’s Uber account that he/she used to register for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program, (2) that is paid for using such Participant’s Uber account that he/she used to register for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program and (3) where such Participant is present for, and actually uses, such Uber Services. For the avoidance of doubt, Uber Usage will not include any use of Uber Services unless the applicable Participant is present for the entirety of the applicable use of the Uber Services.
    2. Earning Starpoints for Any Uber Usage:
      1. Subject to Section 2.2.b of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms, Participants who meet the eligibility criteria set forth in Section 1 of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms and who have at least one Stay already posted to their SPG Member account in the current Calendar Year will earn one base Starpoint for every one U.S. dollar or its foreign equivalent denomination spent on fares for any Uber Usage.
      2. Each Participant will only be able to earn base Starpoints for fares on any Uber Usage up to a maximum spend of $10,000 U.S dollars or its foreign equivalent denomination on Uber Usages per Calendar Year (“Maximum Spend Amount”) pursuant to this Section 2.2 of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms.
      3. Participants will begin earning Starpoints for any Uber Usage that occurs 24 hours after (1) such Participant completes his/her registration for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program and (2) at least one Stay has posted to his/her SPG Member account during the current Calendar Year, regardless of the order of when the Stay was posted and when he/she completed the registration.
    3. Earning Starpoints for Uber Usage during a Stay:
      Participants who meet the eligibility criteria set forth in Section 1 of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms and who have at least one Stay already posted to their SPG Member account in the current Calendar Year, in addition to any base Starpoints earned pursuant to Section 2.2 of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms, will earn:
      1. one bonus Starpoint for every one U.S. dollar or its foreign equivalent denomination spent on fares for any Uber Usage where the pick-up for such Uber Usage occurs during the Stay Eligibility Period, if such Participant is not a Gold Preferred Guest or a Platinum Preferred Guest as of the date that the Starpoints are posted to the Participant’s SPG Member account;
      2. two bonus Starpoints for every one U.S. dollar or its foreign equivalent denomination spent on fares for any Uber Usage where the pick-up for such Uber Usage occurs during the Stay Eligibility Period, if such Participant is a Gold Preferred Guest or a Platinum Preferred Guest (and has not earned a minimum of 75 Eligible Nights in the applicable Qualifying Period) as of the date that the Starpoints are posted to the Participant’s SPG Member account; and
      3. three bonus Starpoints for every one U.S. dollar or its foreign equivalent denomination spent on fares for any Uber Usage where the pick-up for such Uber Usage occurs during the Stay Eligibility Period, if such Participant is a Platinum Preferred Guest (and has earned a minimum of 75 Eligible Nights in the applicable Qualifying Period) as of the date that the Starpoints are posted to the Participant’s SPG Member account.
      Notwithstanding the foregoing, once a Participant has spent the Maximum Spend Amount during any Calendar Year and is no longer eligible to earn additional base Starpoints during such Calendar Year pursuant to Section 2.2 of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms, such Participant will not be eligible to earn any additional bonus Starpoints pursuant to this Section 2.3 of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms during such Calendar Year.
    4. Uber Usage between January 1st and January 31st of the Current Calendar Year: For clarification purposes only, if a Participant had a Stay posted to his/her SPG Member account in the immediately preceding Calendar Year and has met all other eligibility criteria set forth in these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms, such Participant will be eligible to earn Starpoints pursuant to Section 2.2 and Section 2.3 of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms for fares spent on any Uber Usage until 11:59 P.M. (local time) on January 31st of the current Calendar Year (regardless of whether such Participant has a Stay posted to his/her SPG Member account during the current Calendar Year); provided that such Participant will not be eligible to earn Starpoints pursuant to Section 2.2 and Section 2.3 of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms for fares spent on any Uber Usage at any time after January 31st of the current Calendar Year unless such Participant has a Stay posted to his/her SPG Member account during the current Calendar Year (i.e. since 12:00 A.M. on January 1st of the current Calendar Year).
  3. Termination of Participation in the SPG-Uber Benefits Program.
    1. Termination by Participant: A Participant may terminate his/her participation in the SPG-Uber Benefits Program at any time by calling the SPG Customer Contact Center.
    2. Termination by Starwood and Uber: Starwood or Uber may suspend the SPG-Uber Benefits Program benefits or terminate a Participant’s ability to participate in the SPG-Uber Benefits Program at any time with immediate effect and without written notice, for any reason and in their sole discretion including, without limitation, if:
      1. The Participant’s SPG Member account or Uber account has been suspended or terminated for any reason;
      2. The Participant no longer has active membership in the SPG Program; or
      3. Starwood or Uber believes the Participant has:
        1. Violated the SPG Program Terms & Conditions or the Uber Terms & Conditions;
        2. Acted in a manner inconsistent with applicable laws, regulations or ordinances;
        3. Failed to pay any hotel bill when due to Starwood or an SPG Participating Hotel or failed to fulfill a Starwood Vacation Ownership financial obligation;
        4. Acted in an inappropriate, fraudulent, abusive or hostile manner;
        5. Breached or violated any of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms; or
        6. Engaged in any misconduct or wrongdoing in connection with the SPG-Uber Benefits Program.
  4. Other Principles.
    1. Modification of the SPG-Uber Benefits Program: Starwood and Uber may change these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms at any time, for any reason and without notice.
    2. Termination of the SPG-Uber Benefits Program: Starwood and Uber may terminate the SPG-Uber Benefits Program at any time. A Participant may not accumulate Starpoints or claim any SPG-Uber Benefits Program benefits after the termination of the SPG-Uber Benefits Program.
    3. Benefits Subject to Availability and Modification: All of the benefits, amenities, offers, awards and services of the SPG-Uber Benefits Program are subject to availability and may be changed at any time without notice.
    4. No Sale or Transfer: Any SPG-Uber Benefits Program benefits may not be sold, bartered or transferred (other than by Starwood, Uber or their respective agents). Any attempted transfer, sale or barter will be void. Starwood, Uber and their partners may refuse to honor or recognize any benefits which such party believes may have been transferred, sold or bartered.
    5. SPG-Uber Benefits Program Participant Data: Starwood will receive certain Participant personal information from Uber as agreed to by the Participant when registering for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program, which may be used by Starwood in connection with the SPG-Uber Benefits Program, including, without limitation, to verify account information and award Starpoints, and for Starwood’s own business purposes, which will be disclosed to the Participant at the time Participant registers for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program. The Participant personal information provided to Starwood from Uber will be identified by Starwood and Uber at the time of registration and may include a Participant’s name, address, email address, picture, and Uber Usage data (including, without limitation, member number, product, fares, length of ride, date, pick-up and drop-off location, and pick-up and drop-off time), and other account information regarding Participant’s use of Uber’s services. Solely with a Participant’s express consent, such personal information may be used by Starwood for marketing purposes (e-statements, promotional offers or events).
    6. No Warranties or Representations, Express or Implied: Starwood and Uber make no warranties or representations, either expressed or implied with respect to type, quality or fitness of goods or services provided through the SPG-Uber Benefits Program.
    7. Indemnification: Each Participant agrees to indemnify and hold Starwood, Uber, the SPG Participating Hotels and their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, agents and employees harmless from any claim or demand, including, without limitation, reasonable attorney’s fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of such Participant’s breach of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms or such Participant’s violation of any law or the rights of a third party.
    8. Waiver: Waiver of any breach of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms by any Participant will not constitute a waiver of any other prior or subsequent breach of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms.
    9. Limitation of Liability: IN NO EVENT WILL STARWOOD, UBER OR ANY SPG PARTICIPATING HOTEL BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER BASED IN CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, WHICH ARISE OUT OF OR ARE IN ANY WAY CONNECTED WITH THE SPG-UBER BENEFITS PROGRAM OR THESE SPG-UBER BENEFITS PROGRAM TERMS.
    10. Choice of Law and Venue: Any disputes arising out of or related to the SPG-Uber Benefits Program or these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms will be handled individually without any class action, and will be governed by, construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflicts of law rules. The exclusive jurisdiction for any claim or action arising out of or relating to these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms or the SPG-Uber Benefits Program may be filed only in the state or federal courts located in the State of New York, United States.
    11. Trademarks: Starpoints, SPG, Preferred Guest, and their respective logos are the trademarks of Starwood or its affiliates. Uber and its logos are the trademarks of Uber.
    12. Eligibility Notification: A Participant must promptly notify Starwood in the event that (i) he/she is not eligible for any reason, including, without limitation, pursuant to any applicable laws, to earn Starpoints, or any other benefits that a Participant may earn under the SPG-Uber Benefits Program or (ii) his/her SPG Member account has been credited with any Starpoints or any other benefit that a Participant may earn under the SPG-Uber Benefits Program that he/she has not earned or is not eligible to earn.
    13. Interpretation of SPG Program Terms: All interpretations of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms will be at Starwood’s and Uber’s sole discretion, and Starwood’s and Uber’s decisions will be final. In the event of any discrepancy between the English version and any translated version of these SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms, the English language version will prevail.

SPG-Uber New Rider Discount Terms and Conditions

By using the SPG-Uber New Rider Promotion Code SPGUBER or SPGUBERELITE (the “Promo Code” or “Promo Codes” collectively), you agree to the following:

  • You are receiving the benefits of the Promo Code as part of a loyalty program and you did not purchase the Promo Code or provide consideration to either SPG or Uber in exchange for the Promo Code.
  • Only new users of Uber who enroll in the SPG-Uber Benefits Program are eligible to redeem the Promo Code and apply it to their Uber account.
  • SPG Platinum and SPG Gold Members receive a discount of up to $30 USD or the equivalent of $30 USD in currencies and countries determined by SPG & Uber (promo code SPGUBERELITE). SPG Preferred Members and Non-SPG Members will receive a discount off such New User’s first Uber Usage in an amount that is equal to the then-prevailing market rate being offered by Uber in the location where the New User Code is being utilized (promo code SPGUBER).
  • The Promo Code is redeemable for a one-time discount to be used toward the total cost of your first ride on Uber.
  • In the event the cost of your first ride is less than the total discount you are eligible to receive pursuant to the Promo Code, any balance remaining will be forfeited and will not be credited into your Uber account.  You are responsible for any amounts that are due if the cost of your ride exceeds the original discount of the Promo Code.
  • The Promo Code cannot be transferred, duplicated or sold and there is no cash value.
  • The Promo Code will expire 12 months after the date you register for the SPG-Uber Benefits Program.
  • In the event either SPG or Uber suspect that the use or redemption of the Promo Code was in error, fraudulent, illegal or in violation of these SPG-Uber Promotion Terms and Conditions or in violation of the SPG-Uber Benefits Program Terms, each of SPG and Uber reserves its respective rights.
  • The SPG-Uber New User Promotion and Promo Code may be terminated or modified at any time and without any liability to SPG or Uber.
  • The Promo Code will be used for its intended and lawful purpose and pursuant to the SPG-Uber Benefits Terms and the SPG Terms and Conditions and Uber Terms of Use.

By using the SPG-Uber #SuiteRide Limited Offer (the “Promotion”), you agree to the following:

  • The Promotion is a limited offer for SPG Members who have linked their SPG account to Uber and utilize the SPG branded Uber vehicle on February 28, 2015, during the hours of 2pm and 7pm local time in the following cities: New York, San Francisco, London, Dubai and Mexico City.

  • SPG Members who meet the terms set forth in these Promotion terms and conditions will receive a local, one-way, complimentary ride in the SPG branded Uber vehicle along with special hotel amenities during the ride. In addition, SPG Member will be eligible to receive 15,000 Starpoints.

  • The availability of SPG branded Uber vehicles will be limited during the Promotion hours. Neither SPG nor Uber can guarantee that there will be enough SPG branded Uber vehicles to meet demand during the Promotion. Approximately 460 SPG Members will be eligible to receive the benefits of the Promotion across the five cities.

  • SPG Members who have met the qualifications for this Promotion will receive 15,000 Starpoints. The Starpoints will be deposited into their SPG account within 3-4 weeks from February 28, 2015, and upon all verifications and validations from SPG and Uber. In order to receive the Starpoints, SPG Members must link their SPG account to their Uber account within 30 days of using the SPG branded Uber vehicle.

  • The complimentary ride offer is for a local, one-way ride in the SPG branded Uber vehicle during the Promotion.

  • SPG Members may only take advantage of this Promotion once during the Promotion hours.

  • Only the SPG Member who has used their Uber account to utilize the SPG branded Uber vehicle is eligible to receive the benefits of the Promotion. All other occupants or passengers in the SPG branded Uber vehicle will not receive the benefits of the Promotion or any of the awards.

  • The 15,000 Starpoints cannot be transferred, duplicated or sold and there is no cash value.
