Formula 1 Singapore (18-20 Sep 2015) – Hotel Redemption Success & SIA Grand Prix Ticket Sale

I have received an email from Singapore Airlines this morning advertising a special arrangement of Formula One Singapore Grand Prix Tickets which will take place this year from the 18th to 20th of September. You can find the web based version of that email here.

This is quiet a popular event so I decided to check out what this offer is all about and at the same time checking the availability for points redemptions at Hyatt for the Grand Hyatt Singapore and the SPG Portfolio.

For the tickets themselves, whilst for sure available through the usual outlets, SIA offers special arrangements with the possibility to earn from 2,500 up to 15,000 Krisflyer miles depending on the ticket category. See details below:

Now, I’m not an avid follower of Formula 1 anymore (I stopped watching sometime around the middle of Schumacher’s career and when he was the only one winning) so I had to check the actual dates of the Singapore Grand Prix and then proceeded to check hotel availability for points. Despite the popularity of the event I was surprised that quiet a few hotels are still open.

One of my favorites is the Grand Hyatt Singapore where yours truly spent quiet a few nights in the past:

I’ve had the same success with the SPG Portfolio:

While I really like the new Westin Singapore, the St Regis is a great hotel as well. W Sentosa is a bit far out and might prove a pain to get to depending on the availability of taxis during the event. I have not stayed at the Sheraton Towers for a long time but the location at Newton is certainly convenient.

Conclusion

I was certainly surprised to see so many hotels available for points during Formula One, especially in Singapore. This might prove to be great value for those F1 fans of you who would like a weekend of racing fun.

As a word of caution though, I’d imagine that the suites will be pretty much sold for cash for VIP’s so I would not expect much of an upgrade unless you can pre-confirm this with whatever instruments (such as Suite Upgrade Awards) you have available.
