Welcome To Portugal! Lisbon Airport Plays Porn At The Baggage Belt

Passengers who arrived during the night at Lisbon Airport got a surprise when picking up their baggage. The monitors at the baggage belts were showing a porn movie.

Porn Baggage BeltThe TV was showing a soft porn movie which aired at a regular portuguese TV channel at the time passengers arrived at the baggage belt.

It is not uncommon for airports to show regular tv programs in public areas. Neither is it uncommon for TV stations in Europe to show such soft porn movies during the night (usually past midnight).

USA Today (see here) and other news outlets reported the incident yesterday.

An X-rated film began playing on the TV screens in the baggage area in the wee hours of Monday morning, leaving little to the imagination for travelers standing nearby.

One of the passengers decided to capture the incident on video and posted the clip to social media. In the video, surprised passengers – some laughing – point to the screen while the graphic adult film plays in the carousel area. …

A Lisbon Airport spokesman said “a TV was tuned (without sound) to a Portuguese generalist channel (this is not a porn channel), which at the time ran a soft porn movie.”

“An airport employee noticed the program that was being issued, so those images flashed momentarily on the TV set,” the spokesman added to Yahoo!. “The situation was corrected promptly. There were no complaints. We will ensure that these situations are not repeated.”

Another article at the New York Post (access here) has some eyewitness account on the situation.

Please pick up your belongings from the baggage carousel and feel free to enjoy the complimentary pornography. That was the case for traveler Diogo Seabra as he arrived at the Lisbon, Portugal, airport early in the morning over the weekend.

In a video posted to Facebook, which has since been removed, Seabra enters the nearly empty baggage area only to find porn playing silently on an overhead TV.

“Welcome to Lisbon!” Seabra exclaims through laughter as other male voices chuckle in the background.

Normally, the monitors either display arrival information or broadcast television channels and the airport has “taken all measures” to make sure porn is never shown again, according to Jornal de Noticias.

Maybe the airport should just choose a neutral TV station such as a news channel for public viewing to avoid incidents like this. There was no audible sound either so the incident could have been more ‘impressive’ had that been the case.

Conclusion

As mentioned before it’s common practice that many TV station in Europe show soft porn movies after midnight. It’s been this way forever and I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Obviously it shouldn’t be displayed at a public place but it was an accident and I’m sure the airport will do their best to change TV channels from now on.
