United Airlines sent out an email today to MileagePlus members informing them about the Premier Qualifying Miles changes taking effect on January 1, 2016.

United Airlines will increase (in some cases double) the Premier Qualifying Miles (PQMs) that members can earn for business and first class fares on United and select partner flights.

Here are the changes for United flights:

There will be similar changes for airlines with whom United has JV with including Air Canada (access here), ANA (access here), Brussels Airlines (access here), Austrian (access here), Lufthansa (access here) and Swiss (access here).

Conclusion

You have to remember that this only affects Premier Qualifying Miles part of the qualification and no changes are made to Premier Qualifying Segments or number of award miles you earn.

This change rewards mostly those that fly full fare business or first class fares. The P fare class that Lufthansa affiliated airlines use for discounted business class also goes from 100% to 200% PQM qualification.
