Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) has offered various promotions over the years for those that have visited most/all brands within a calendar year.

SPG Dashboard Brand Promo 2016

Last year, Starwood had widely publicized promo first for 10,000 bonus Starpoints for visiting 10 brands that was later changed for 9K/10K/11K bonus points for 9/10/11 brands.

Conclusion

Seems that Marriott Rewards has already taken over SPG (not really but…) considering that they are now only offering 500 bonus Starpoints for staying at minimum five brands this calendar year.

I value Starpoints at roughly 2 cents each. This means that you are getting $2 rebate for each of the five brands that you visit. Nothing really.

I had an identical promo on my SPG dashboard last year – stay at 5 different brands and get 500 points. Below it was the one for 10k points for visiting 10 different brands which has changes late in the year to 9/10/11k for staying at 9, words or 11 (all) brands. So perhaps nothing new. I don’t see the current promo on my dashboard (and I am incidentally at Sheraton Krakow) but there is an offer of 50 points for checking a box to update my subscription to offers and statements.

Exactly this, the comment of “Seems that Marriott Rewards has already taken over SPG (not really but…) considering that they are now only offering 500 bonus Starpoints for staying at minimum five brands this calendar year” is incorrect.

I was also only given the 500 points for 5 brands initially in 2015, and only later on did SPG extend the 10K points offer to everyone. They then changed the offer to the 9/10/11K promo.

The 500 points was the basic offer given to everyone initially, with the 10K offer being targeted. So this is mirroring the same offers as 2015, albeit they’re announcing them at the start of 2016. This has nothing to do with Marriott.
