InterContinental Hotels Group has long offered Friends & Family discount plan for its IHG Rewards Club members. The use of this rate plan was encouraged by executives at one point in time.

IHG Rewards Club Friends & Family 2016

The Friends & Family discount varies from hotel to hotel and can be anything from 6% to 34% off (usually in the 20%+ off range). The web page states that the discount is 15% that is not correct.

You can access IHG Friends & Family program website and booking engine here.

Note that you may be asked to present the Friends & Family voucher that you can print out from the booking site and fill out the executive name mentioned.

There is no need to use discount or corporate code to bring up these rates. Executing the hotels search on the Friends & Family website is enough.

Note that Friends & Family rate is NOT eligible for stay/night credits, it won’t post as a qualifying stay and it won’t count towards any promotional hurdles. .

Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t book this rate:

1. Doesn’t qualify for stay credit

2. The stay won’t earn points

3. Doesn’t qualify for any promotions

4. Depending of the hotel could be non-cancellable, non-changeable, and non-refundable

5. Elite benefits offered (or not) are property dependent.

6. The rate is not always very good

Due to the issues above, I would ONLY use this rate if the saving is really significant. You should always check all the other available discount rates as well.

Here are some IHG Friends & Family Rate Examples:

Conclusion

There are no issues using this rate plan and the hotels won’t even ask the voucher most of the time. Make sure that you have one printed, however, just in case. I don’t usually use this Friends & Family rate plan because the stay is not a qualifying one towards status, earning points or promotions.
