IHG Rewards Club has had some issues sending out the Ambassador and Royal Ambassador packages since last year (still waiting for mine since August) and many are wondering how to book the Ambassador free weekend night rate that is one of the benefits.

IHG Rewards Club InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night Certificate

InterContinental has made checking the free weekend night price quite difficult. You need to log into your Ambassador account and then follow few links. I, however, have a direct link below that you can use to check the Ambassador certificate price even if you haven’t purchase the status yet.

You can access InterContinental’s web page for Ambassador program here.

The link that InterContinental refers you to go to book the 2-4-1 rate is InterContinental.com/AMBweekend. You can, however, use this link and then just choose the “Ambassador Certificate” rate from the drop down menu. No logging in to your IHG Rewards Club/Ambassador account is required.

Here are the rate rules for InterContinental Park Lane when certificate is used:

When searching for the free weekend night rates, remember that they are only valid for Friday to Sunday nights in the west and Thursday to Saturday in the Middle East.

Note that, although the certificate should be only used for standard accommodations, there are many hotels that have loaded this rate plan for higher category rooms and suites as well.

The online booking system gives you the price for each of the nights separate, but the hotel will only charge for the first night.

You can book this rate even before your have purchased the Ambassador membership to lock in savings, but remember that it can take 2 to 8 weeks to get the membership package with the voucher that you absolutely need to turn in at the time of checking in.

The Ambassador free weekend night rates are based on best flexible rates and usually cancelable until day of arrival, although always check the rate rules.

If you tend to pay for suites at InterContinental hotels, you can have some significant savings by signing up for the Ambassador program and using the free weekend night voucher.

The presidential suite is not that expensive in Mauritius. Could be worth splurging for it when using the certificate.

I have to stay that I have never seen so many different room categories as this Sydney property has loaded for this certificate. The King Harbor suite is the usual Royal Ambassador upgrade I have received at this property outside of the most popular weekend.

That Manhattan Suite is rather expensive one. Great savings if someone had been willing to pay that price for two nights.

Conclusion

If you book base level rooms, you really don’t get the second night free because the rate is based on the Best Flexible one. Many hotels are offering discounted rates over the weekend and you cannot apply the Ambassador free weekend night voucher towards them.

This is especially a good deal if you tend to book premium suites at any of these properties. You can easily save the $200 sign up fee most of the time in just one stay.

The certificate states that it is not available for suites, Many properties have this rate plan loaded for them as well.

Used the certificate for Park Lane for when I received platinum (became spire elite in December 2015 and still waiting for spire elite ambassador…). Booked an executive room for GBP510. Check in was a breeze and they double upgraded me to a small suite based in spire elite (no view, but that’s ok). Certificate handed over at check in and no problems whatsoever!

IC parklane i have to say really upholds their end of the bargain, i booked (as plat amb) a superior london and got a double upgrade to executive london with view on apsley house, easy to use the certificate on what i think a very pleasent hotel and friendly staff.

About the amb packs, there seem to be some confusion at IHG, i get every year 2 packs and certificates; requalification and amb renewal. I’m not complaining but the certificates are legal and usable.

Still waiting for my certificate since January, my view on this issue is I am giving them two more weeks otherwise asking for a refund. Never again that is for sure.

I haven’t received my cert since Nov. I just remembered and emailed them about it last week and their reply was: “We apologize if you
were unable to receive your Ambassador portfolio in a timely manner. Our
records do not show any indication that it was returned or rejected to your
mailing address indicated below.” I note that they didn’t specifically say they had sent it, thus implying it was the fault of the mailman or me. Yet I see that it’s a common problem, so I think we can assume it was their fault. Anyway, they told me they’d send another via UPS. I’d suggest y’all ask them again. – ambassador@ihg.com

    • Certainly their fault. Some have received kits while others (including me) have not.

I have one Ambassador Certificate expiring end of December 2016 which I may not be able to use cleverly. What is the typical resell/exchange value of this kind of Ambassador Certificate? Thanks!

I had completely forgotten about our weekend certificate. Usually they aren’t a value for us, we’ve found before that the hotels will actually charge loads more for the night and it ends up costing just as much, but without the credit of paying for two nights. But, since you posted this, and we’re staying at an IC this weekend, I gave it a look and it was actually beneficial. So thanks for the reminder!

Just to follow up as booking the Park Lane again…I noticed the executive room under the AMB voucher price is about GBP70 ($100) more than the regular price…sneaky, as you aren’t really getting a full extra night for free, just a good discount. 2 nights at best rate would be GBP884 and with voucher its will end up being GBP510, so its a saving of GBP374 instead of GBP442…hmmm…its fine, but its not a free night as the AMB is a jacked up rate…
If they put me in another one bed suite, I don’t care!
