Malaysia Airlines Enrich Secretly Discontinues 15% Online Award Booking Discount

It appears that without any major announcement Malaysia Airlines Enrich has discontinued a popular program feature, namely the 15% online booking discount for awards.

MAS EnrichThe removal of the online discount was not announced publicly but rather buried in the Enrich FAQ section of the website.

Enrich customers won’t like this change at all especially the fashion in which it was put to them. I can imagine many members don’t even know about the elimination of the discount feature until they are trying to use it next time.

Here is the FAQ in regards to the changes.

These online booking discounts are popular and other airlines such as Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer also have it in place (at least for now). To prepare a bulletin 11 days before such a cutback leaves a bitter taste.

Conclusion

It’s not very nice to throw something like this at your members without adequate announcements and opportunity for people to do a last redemption with the 15% discount on top.

Unfortunately this is in line with many other decisions Malaysia Airlines has taken in the recent time that could hit customers like a cold shower. For example the airline has eliminated alcoholic beverages from short haul flights and is also known for cancelling lightly booked flights on the last minute, merging passengers with other flights (especially on frequent routes such as Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok).
