IHG Rewards Club has updated the Terms and conditions governing the Ambassador & Royal Ambassador program effective February 6, 2017.

InterContinental Ambassador T&Cs Update Effective January 20 2017

The small but significant change deals with benefits when redeeming points instead of paying for the night.

Here’s the update:

When staying on Reward Nights, all Ambassador and Royal Ambassador Privileges apply with the exception of upgrades, Club Lounge access (Royal Ambassadors), Mini bar beverages (Royal Ambassadors), free Pay-TV film per stay, 24-hour guaranteed room availability and, 8:00 am early check-in (where a cost is applicable).

Conclusion

I am not quite sure why IHG Rewards Club is so fixated that Ambassador and Royal Ambassador members wouldn’t get (officially) any on-property benefits when using points? None of the other major programs (Hilton, Marriott and Starwood) care.

Royal Ambassador members soon have guaranteed lounge access for their paid stays worldwide. Greater China properties will come online on March 1, 2017 (read more here).
