Emirates has launched a new offer for 50% off upgrade awards from business class to first class for those redeeming Skywards miles.

Emirates First Class Upgrades Half Price

This offer is valid for upgrades processed between February 7 – 15 for travel February 20 – March 31, 2017

You can access this offer on Emirates’ website here.

Note that the T&Cs indicate that “special fares” are not eligible for upgrades. It is unclear what these fares might be.

Conclusion

I would say that it is probably the best use of Emirates Skywards miles to use them for upgrades. Regular awards are expensive, and you must pay for the fuel surcharges as well. If you are have eligible itineraries, I would check the miles required for first class upgrades under this promotion.

Perhaps first class bookings are soft at the moment? Why would they otherwise offer discounts?

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

The Emirates Skywards ‘First Class Reduced Upgrade Offer’ is open to all who:

Are Emirates Skywards members

Have an existing or purchase a new Business Class ticket and upgrade to First Class between 00:01 hours on 07 February and 23:59 hours on 15 February 2017 (Dubai local time) for travel between 20 February and 31 March 2017.

The reduced reward is only valid for upgrades from Business Class to First Class; Special fares are not eligible for upgrades.

Taxes and fuel surcharges are excluded and must be paid in full.

This offer is open to all Emirates marketed and operated flights.

Once the upgrade is processed, any changes made will result in cancellation of the upgrade and will have to be requested again.

Upgrade seats are subject to availability.

All other terms and conditions for Emirates Skywards Upgrade Rewards remain the same.
