If your account is based on somewhere else and you have stays coming up that would be eligible for the bonus points under this offer, you need to move your address or forgo the points.

I have an address that I can use in the qualifying area. Updated it and registered for the promo. I should complete it in the next two weeks after which I probably move it back to North America.

Sorry John, I disagree with encouraging IHGers to temporarily change their @rewards account home address to register for geograhically restricted challenges, where t+c’s also say both a)only for originally targetted recipient & b)have the fraud/account-cancel warning.

By all means take an informed risk yourself but you shoud not encourage others, unless you clearly spell out risk clearly.

By nature of that “address fraud” IHG have the right to cancel the member account , losing member their account and all banked points.
This above promo t+c’s state BOTH
i)This exclusive offer is valid for original recipient only
ii)cancel a member’s account if fraudulent use of the Promotion is detected.

It is very easy for IHG to see accounts that change account addresses just to register for promotions. Also being a blog site, if a large number of your readers follow such advice to swap addresses etc, IHG are more likely to notice and be need to take action.

If your address was not AMEA then it is obvious one was never targetted, I might make a personal informed risk on(i) above, but not if I had to also change my IHG address first.

I absolutely agree. Don’t be greedy. A family friend lost his account due to following some of John’s advice a couple years back when IHG had all those stackable promo codes around.

      • colin

whilst unfortunate, not really John O’s fault if occured a couple of years ago, since IHG (and even IHGs CEO) at tat time encouraged using of any and all known promo codes

Alas that changed and is no longer true and nowadays using codes you are not directly invited to use is very risky

If you have minimal status, minimal points balance the risk is maybe worth it. If one has elite status and many 100K’s of points the risk on balance is higher

      • See that I still have a warning about registering for promotions that one weren’t targeted: http://loyaltylobby.com/hotel-promotions/ihg-rewards-club/

The times when anyone could register for all promotions are gone. Now, most of the time they are targeted and thus problems with account closures gone (haven’t received any emails about this happening for quite some time).

This Book Direct-promotion, however, is open for all members that have their account address in the area.

  • Sergey Fedorov

Why does T&S say nothing about geographic restriction of eligible accounts?

    • colin

because if you wre legitimately originally targetted, you’d probably only be targetted if eligible based obn your geographical home address.

eg IHGers not resident in AMEA would not be emailed regards this promo so no need to furher spell out in t+c the geographical signup limitation

  • AVP

I registered successfully, but did not get the 1000 points for registering. I had my 1st stay, and I did get the 5000 points for the stay. So, partially not working…?

    • I would assume that the registration and the completion bonus post separate from the stay bonuses that post with the stays. I have already had three stays and received the 5,000, 9,000 and 15,000 bonuses.

      • Hey John, have you received the registration and completion bonus yet? I also have received the three stay bonuses but nothing else.

        • Had the registration bonus just posted this week. The completion bonus is still MIA.
