Malaysia Airlines Regional & Domestic Lounges Temporarily Closure (Refurbishments)

Malaysia Airlines made an announcement this week about the refurbishments that are made this summer to the regional and domestic lounges at the Kuala Lumpur airport.

Malaysia Airlines Lounge Closure

This means that the international regional lounge is closed May 12 – August 15 and domestic one June 2 – August 15.

You can access the lounge closure info on Malaysia’s website here.

Those flying from the regional gates (usually used by the single aisle aircraft) need to take the Aerotrain to the satellite terminal where they can use the Golden Lounge, CIP lounge or the Cathay Pacific one.

Here’s what Malaysia Airlines writes:

To provide Malaysia Airlines guests with a better travel experience, we will be upgrading our Regional and Domestic Golden Lounges at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. While our lounges are closed for the enhancement and renovation works, we will provide alternative lounge facilities and arrangements for our guests during this period. You can find the details below:

Regional Golden Lounge at Main Terminal Building

Closed from 12:00am 12 May until 15 August 2017

During the closure, Business Class guests, Enrich Platinum, Gold and oneworld members can use either of the following lounges:

a) Malaysia Airlines International Golden Lounge at the Satellite building, located close to the Aerotrain (Operating 24 hours)

b) Malaysia Airport CIP lounge located at the Mezzanine floor, Satellite Terminal, located close to Gates 31-37 (Operating hours: 6:00 am to 10:00 am and 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm)

Facilities available at Malaysia Airport CIP lounge:

  • Light Refreshment
  • Lounge seating
  • Wi-fi
  • Flight information display, newspapers and magazines

Please note the following facilities are not available at Malaysia Airport CIP lounge:

  • Toilet and shower facilities

However, the nearest toilet is located just opposite the Malaysia Airport CIP lounge and our Muslims guests may utilize the public Surau located nearby the lounge (approximately 1 minute walk from Malaysia Airport CIP lounge).

oneworld members can also use other alternative oneworld lounges at the airport.

Domestic Golden Lounge

Closed from midnight 2 June until 15 August 2017

During the closure, Business Class guests, Enrich Platinum, Gold and oneworld members can use the following temporary lounge:

B3 Area temporary lounge located at B3 Gate Domestic Main Terminal Building

(Operating hours from 5:00 am to 12:00 am)

Facilities available at B3 Area:

  • Light Refreshment
  • Lounge seating
  • Wi-fi
  • Flight information display, newspapers and magazines

Please note the following facilities are not available at this alternative temporary lounge:

  • Muslim prayer room (Surau)
  • Toilet and shower facilities

However, the nearest toilet is located just outside the B3 Area Lounge and our Muslims guests may utilise the public ‘Surau’’ located near the transfer desk of Malaysia Airlines Gate A section (approximately 5 minutes walk from B3).

Conclusion

Sometimes the regional flights arrive and depart also from the satellite terminal, although mostly from the regional gates. You need extra 10 to 15 minutes to visit the satellite terminal lounge(s) if arriving at the regional gates.

The Golden Lounge in the satellite terminal has the first class side for Emerald members where I tend to spend my time when transiting in Kuala Lumpur if enough time.
