IHG Rewards Club has launched an interesting promotion to get people to book and consume Club InterContinental reservations in Asia-Pacific (greater China excluded), Middle East and Africa.

Ambassador members can get 10,000 bonus points per stay between July 14 – December 31, 2017. Registration for this offer is required.

You can access this offer on IHG’s website here. The page is really confusing and here’s the direct registration link.

Note that the T&Cs state that this offer is only open for Ambassador members in Asia-Pacific (excluding Greater China that includes China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau), Middle East and Africa for stays in the same area.

This offer should only be open for those Ambassador members that renew or sign up (but don’t we all that stay at InterContinental hotels renew at some point?).

IHG Rewards Club Ambassador 10,000 Bonus Points Per Club Booking Consumed By December 31 2017 My Offer Status

The landing page for this offer was very confusing (who designs these pages?).

Not sure exactly how this promo will work? Do they really track what you booked (properties may upgrade or even downgrade you sometimes) and award you bonus points based on the original Club InterContinental-rate reserved? I see many emails to Ambassador service center to claim missing bonus points.

Wonder if Ambassador renewals and sign up are not running at the expected levels or the Club InterContinental bookings are soft?

I am actually in the eligible area for the next couple of weeks and may book one Club InterContinental stay to see if these promo points actually post.

Will be interesting to see if they cap this to only those who renew or are newly signed up after July 14th (i.e. recently activated) or whether we can all participate. I am signed up …great find John!

    • I should have thanked reader (did by email) who forwarded this offer to me.

  • PayItForward

For clarity, one needs to be booked into a Club room rate (Club access) for the 10,000 bonus right?

“Book Club InterContinental to enjoy a new level of service that is all about thoughtful touches and exceptional experiences. When you stay at Club InterContinental, you’ll discover that there’s no request too big, and no detail too small to make your travel truly extraordinary.”

    • thatsthatmattressman

That is how I read it yes. That is why John was stating in the article … this is not something that is easy to ‘trace’ programmatically so as he noted could be a spike in requests to the Ambassador centre for missing points!

      • Nitram

It’s very easy to track programmatically – all rooms and rates have codes following the same syntax through the chain.

Anyhow, I see the reason for this offer due to their expressively stated exclusion to upgrade to club which has seen me stay only twice since March at an Intercontinental where I normally would have stayed 10 or 12 times. I must say that the offer is tempting and if I see this posting, will move stays again.

        • I would say that the mistake that IHG and Ambassador program made was to deny the club access from Ambassador members that book one category below club and who might get a club room as an upgrade (but without club access).

          • karl

It was a big effort to get IC’s to give RA lounge access. This would be to big a step and frankly, it would would a slap in the face for RA’s who spend a significant amount on maintaining their status. Not just $200 per year.
Even Gold and Platinum members, in reviews i’ve seen recently, express their disappointment at lack of comped lounge access at places like IC Park Lane. Some of these people aren’t even Ambassador.

  • Vijay

Is there a promo code with this?

    • Nitram

43983 – John doesn’t like to post all information as that will reduce the number of people going through his affiliate links.

    • If you get an error message, I probably means that your account is not in the eligible area.

  • thatsthatmattressman

has anyone who did not initially receive the email but signed up none the less received points in relation to this promotion?

    • I did an experiment on Saturday night and booked a Club rate. Should now in about a week or so.
