Cathay Pacific has teamed up with Australian fragrance designer to come up with something called “Parfums de Voyage” to remind passengers about the unique scents of the Hong Kong (not sure if this is the best idea).
The airline will hand out this on a complimentary base on select Australia flights to all passengers starting from October 2017.
You can access Cathay’s web page and video about this project here.
Here’s what Cathay Pacific writes:
Smell is the most closely associated sense to memory. A single aroma can evoke a powerful response, vividly conjuring memories and emotions as if they occurred yesterday.
To help capture Hong Kong’s signature scent, we’ve teamed up with renowned perfume expert, Samantha Taylor of The Powder Room, to create Parfums de Voyage – a scientifically crafted perfume designed to ignite your memories of the city.
In the same way our fleet of aircraft literally transports you to your destination, Parfum de Voyage will take you back through time and place. From the mountains, teahouses, markets, and temples, you’ll embark on a “return journey through scent”.
Parfums de Voyage will be available on board select Cathay Pacific flights from October 2017.
What on earth Cathay Pacific or the person who signed off this campaign was thinking? I really like Hong Kong and visit the city several times a year. I don’t relate it, however, with pleasant scents.
I am eagerly awaiting to test this perfume and to see if anyone would actually use it.
