Hilton HHonors Airline Promotions for Air Canada Aeroplan, US Airways Dividend Miles, Lufthansa Miles & More and American Airlines AAdvantage

Hilton HHonors severed the relationship they had had with the Southwest and discontinued the ability to earn Rapid Rewards points from Hilton stays at the end of last year. To counter this change Hilton is having several promotions going on for double or triple miles with five airline partners. I have already written about the promotion with Delta for 2012 bonus SkyMiles for stays or two days or longer. The beauty of this promotion with Delta is that all the Hilton family of hotels are participating.

There are three other ongoing promotions that you can combine with these. The other promotions are Resort Escapes for free night certificates, More Points for extra points, and Visa Infinite promotion for instant Gold status and 40K HH after four stays.

You can earn triple miles with US Airways Dividend miles, and double miles with Air Canada’s Aeroplan and American’s AAdvantage.  You need to designate the airline as the double dip partner and choose the variable or fixed miles.  With these airlines you really need to check the participating properties. The list is rather short.

Aeroplan Conversion Offer – Get 20% to 25% Bonus When You Convert Partner Points to Aeroplan Miles.

Now that Aeroplan has instituted fuel surcharges on most awards, they have announced a promotion for transferring points from partner programs that are converted to Aeroplan miles.  Depending  on the number of miles received after conversion Aeroplan is offering a 20% to 25% bonus. The maximum number of bonus miles per partner transfer is 25000. You can earn the maximum number from multiple partners. This offer is valid for transfers from November 21st, 2011 and December 12th, 2011.

Aeroplan Conversion Offer

Does it make sense to convert? Well, it depends. If you have something specific in mind redemption wise and don’t mind paying the fuel surcharges, it probably does. Air Canada’s Aeroplan still offers quite relaxed routing rules for awards issued using their points. If you happen to have 80000 Starwood Star Points they would transfer to 125000 Aeroplan miles using this promotion.

Aroplan Introduces More Fuel Surcharges – Get Your Redemptions In Before The Change.

Last week Aeroplan briefly introduced fuel surcharges for number of carriers before backpedalling and charging them only for flights on Lufthansa operated flights.

Today they tweeted about the upcoming changes in couple of weeks’ time. Now they are starting to collect fuel surcharges for quite a few different airlines. Surprisingly, even the Japan Airlines made the list even when they are Oneworld carrier.

Fuel Surcharges And Aeroplan – Air Canada’s Frequent Flyer Program.

Over the past couple of days there has been chatter on frequent flyer message boards like FlyerTalk.com that Aeroplan had started unannounced to charge fuel surcharges on number of Star Alliance carriers. Aeroplan or actually Aimia, as the parent is now called, is a separate publicly listed company in Canada. Aeroplan had already for years collected so called fuel surcharges (YQ) on Air Canada metal flights.

The issue with fuel surcharges and “free” award tickets is a toxic one. Airlines love fuel surcharges as it makes them easier to change the fares, corporate discounts do not apply to these charges, they don’t have to pay travel agent commission on these charges, and most importantly they try to charge them on award tickets as well.

Now it is a good time to get in some Hyatt stays when the Hyatt has two overlapping promotions; 2500 Aeroplan miles per stay and 5000 Hyatt Gold Passport points for every three nights.

The Aeroplan promotion runs until the end of September and the Hyatt points promotion until the November 15th.

You can use Aeroplan, Air Canada’s loyalty program, miles to book travel on wide variety of carriers as the carrier belongs to Star Alliance.
