Alaska Airlines purchase of Virgin America closed last month (read more here and here) and now the airline is trying to get Elevate members to link their accounts to Mileage Plan or open one.

Alaska Airlines just announced changes to its Mileage Plan program that are effective today except that the partnership with Delta will end on April 30, 2017.

Alaska Airlines’ purchase of Virgin America has now closed and the airline (Alaska) sent out information for Virgin America Elevate members about the coming changes (very little information yet).

Starting on December 19, 2016, Elevate members can start earning points on Alaska Airlines flights and and vise versa. More changes are coming on January 9 when Elevate members can have their status matched with Alaska and both can start using miles on each others flights. [click to continue…]

The Justice Department today approved Alaska Airlines’ purchase of Virgin America that was announced back in April (JetBlue was the other bidder that lost).

Alaska must scale back its codesharing with American Airlines for the deal to be approved. This will reduce American Airlines coded pasengers on Alaska’s flights by half. The deal doesn’t have affect on Alaska’s partnership with Delta. [click to continue…]

I recently had a fairly long layover at LAX about a week and a half ago on my way to Hong Kong and had the chance to visit several airline lounges there and wanted to write a post to talk about my experiences and what I liked and disliked about each.

I flew on American Airlines for this trip, and being an Executive Platinum member of AA’s AAdvantage frequent flyer program (One World Emerald) and having a Priority Pass Select membership through my Citi Prestige credit card, I am able to access to quite a few lounges here.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (usually referred to as DOT) released consent orders on Friday against Alaska, United, American, Air Canada and Southwest.

DOT Fines Alaska Southwest United American Air Canada

These airlines had failed to comply with the DOT rules that deal with involuntarily denied boarding and damaged/lost luggage. The DOT fined these airlines $35K to $45 each. [click to continue…]

Alaska Airlines and Japan Airlines launched their frequent flier partnership last month (read more here) and now Mileage Plan members can earn double miles on select JAL flights.

Japan Airlines made an announcement early May that they intended to start codeshare and frequent flier partnership with Alaska Airlines on June 29, 2016, pending government approval.
