Bloomberg ran an interesting article couple of days back about the “fall” of Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific and how these airlines are squeezed both by the ME3 (Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways) and Chinese carriers (China Eastern, China Southern, Hainan, Air China etc,).

Asia Miles, Cathay Pacific’s base non-status frequent flyer program has extended their promotion that gives a 30% bonus when you convert your hotel points to Asia Miles until 28th February 2017.

One of my pet peeves of flying on Cathay Pacific for me has been the lack of in-flight internet (and not dine on demand for business class passengers – should change sometime next year as well).

Air Canada (Star Alliance) and Cathay Pacific (Oneworld) are starting to codeshare on January 19 2017, and the frequent flier partnership between Asia Miles and Aeroplan begins on the same date.

Cathay Pacific has extended their redemption option of redeeming miles for lounge access to all their worldwide locations, allowing non status Economy Class passengers to enjoy the facilities.

Cathay Pacific flight attendants based in the U.S. are in the process of becoming unionized after the airline has stopped contributing to their employees’ social security and medicare health coverage.

A Cathay Pacific employee in Taipei went the extra mile for a customer and could see himself reprimanded by the company after providing some rather unconventional service.

Cathay Pacific‘s CEO has hinted in an interview that the Hong Kong based carrier will move towards a seating configuration of ten abreast, squeezing Economy Class passengers even more.

Cathay Pacific & Dragonair are two of the airlines that engage in fuel hedging and it has caught up with them in a bad way as oil prices dropped dramatically and the airline is currently locked into higher rates.
