Etihad Offer For Double Coral Economy Miles (Targeted)

Over the past year, I have received number of targeted offers for double/triple miles in business and first class on Etihad, but never before for economy. This targeted offer (that you can access here) is valid for travel between April 22 and May 30, 2013.

etihad-y-double-miles

Etihad will double the number of award miles that you earn for your economy flight.

Etihad Switching From Amadeus to Sabre – Be Ready For A Bumpy Ride

Etihad sent out an email about the forthcoming switch from Amadeus reservation system to Sabre one that will take place on 23rd of this month. You can read Etihad’s statement about this change here.

etihad-amadeus-to-sabre-switch

Switching a GDS (Global Reservation System) is a huge task. The airline is required to convert and move all the PNR and eticket information from the old system to the new one. During the “blackout” period, the Etihad personnel is likely required to do manual check in’s at the airport, if the passenger has not checked in beforehand.

Etihad Abu Dhabi Stopover Deal: First Night Free

If you have been planning on flying Etihad Airways, you may have come across their offer for a first night free offer. This is valid for stays of minimum of two nights that is in conjunction of Etihad flight in/out of Abu Dhabi. It is not valid for trips originating or ending in the city, however.

etihad-essential-abu-dhabi-stopovers

Etihad has had this same offer for the past year and they have now renewed it until November 30, 2013. This offer is valid for tickets issued after December 1, 2012. You can read more about this offer on Etihad’s website here.

Etihad’s Double & Triple Miles Offer for Business & First Class

Etihad just sent out an offer for double miles for business class and/or triple miles for first class for travel between January 21 and February 4 that is valid ONLY for bookings that are made from January 20 to February 3, 2013. This appears to be a targeted offer and you can access it here.

etihad-double-triple-offer

The other year, I credited bunch of business class flights that I took on Sri Lankan to Etihad. There weren’t any better choice for them. In 2012, I took advantage of Etihad’s offer of matching a status with a competing airline. I am now Etihad Gold until sometime in 2014.

Double Etihad, Jet or Qatar Miles at 20 Hyatt Properties in South West Asia

Hyatt is offering double miles for Etihad, Jet or Qatar frequent flier members between December 1 and February 28, 2013, at 20 Hyatt properties in Southwest Asia. You need to use offer code SWADBL when making the booking.

hyatt-swadbl-jet-etihad-qatar

The participating properties for this offer are:

Hyatt Capital Gate, Abu Dhabi, Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Resort & Villas, Hyatt Regency Chennai, Park Hyatt Chennai, Hyatt Regency Delhi, Grand Hyatt Doha, Grand Hyatt Dubai, Hyatt Regency Dubai, Park Hyatt Dubai, Grand Hyatt Goa, Park Hyatt Goa, Park Hyatt Hyderabad, Park Hyatt Jeddah Marina, Club and Spa, Hyatt Regency Kathmandu, Hyatt Regency Kolkata, Park Hyatt Maldives, Hyatt Regency Mumbai, Grand Hyatt Mumbai, Grand Hyatt Muscat and Hyatt Regency Pune.

qatar-hyatt-1000-bonus

The Qatar’s web page refers to a 1000 bonus Qmiles that I believe is incorrect. This offer is for double miles that would be total of 1000 Qmiles per stay. The bonus amount is 500 Qmiles per stay and not 1000. If you are planning to collect Qmiles, make sure that you take a screenshot of the Qatar’s web page.

Conclusion

This offer may make sense if you have a one night inexpensive stay at any of the participating properties. Otherwise, I would just collection Hyatt Gold Passport points.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

Double miles offer valid December 1, 2012-February 28, 2013 with Etihad Airways, Jet Airways and Qatar Airways at participating Hyatt hotels worldwide. All hotel reservations are subject to availability and must be made in advance. Offer is not valid with groups/conventions and may not be combined with other promotional offers. Guest must request offer code SWADBL at time of reservation and check-in to receive bonus miles. Guest must choose miles for their stay. Guest must present a valid airline membership card at check-in and pay an eligible rate. An “Eligible Rate” is any hotel published room rate, including, but not limited to rates found on hyatt.com or any Hyatt Gold Passport, the Hyatt Daily Rate, Volume Rate, AAA and Senior Citizen rates, etc. “Ineligible Rates” are discounted rates, including, but not limited to, any free night stays, Internet wholesale rates (such as priceline.com, hotels.com, etc.), traditional wholesale rates (such as GOGO Worldwide Vacations, Pleasant Holidays, etc.), airline crew rates, airline employee rates, travel agency employee rates, Club at the Hyatt discount certificate stays, Hyatt Vacation Club stays, Hyatt employee or employee family discount rates, airline interrupted-trip vouchers or contracted rooms (a contract room is a room that has been reserved pursuant to a written and executed agreement between a hotel and a corporation, government agency or individual for a negotiated room rate in exchange for an agreed upon number of rooms to be rented for an extended period of time). One bonus per member, per room, per stay. Eligibility for miles is subject to the terms and conditions of participating airlines programme. Allow 6-8 weeks after your stay for your bonus miles to be posted to your airline account. This promotion is subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Hyatt Gold Passport program. One bonus per member, per room, per stay. Offer is subject to terms and conditions of the Etihad Guest Miles program.

Etihad is offering bonus miles for referring friends to their Etihad Guest frequent flier program. The referrer gets 5000 miles and the referred double/triple first flight bonus miles for business/first class flight. This promotion is valid until December 31, 2012.

etihad-refer-a-friend-bonus

You can access this offer here. You can ask your friend to refer your or you can email me your name, email address and country of residence to john@loyaltylobby.com. I will have the sign up offer sent to you.

Conclusion

This offer is only good for  those that have business or first class Etihad flights booked and they haven’t yet signed up for the Etihad Quest program. It appears that this bonus only applies to the first flight and not ticket/trip.

Etihad and Garuda Indonesia Sign Codeshare Agreement

Etihad and Garuda reached an agreement last week regarding codesharing between the airlines. This was announced last week on 18th of last month and there was quite a bit of both paid and free publicity on the newspapers regarding this issue.

etihad-garuda-jakarta-post

Garuda will shift its Amsterdam flight to go via Abu Dhabi instead of Dubai and will codeshare on number of Etihad flights between Abu Dhabi and number of cities in the Europe/Middle East.

etihad-garuda-indonesia

There is a comprehensive list of destinations that the airlines are going to codeshare on Airlineroute.net website.

As part of the deal, the airline from 02DEC12 will shift 4 weekly Jakarta – Dubai – Amsterdam route will to Jakarta – Abu Dhabi – Amsterdam, with A330-200 aircraft.

GA’s new Schedule and codeshare routes with ETIHAD as follows:

GA088 CGK1940 – 0100+1AUH0230+1 – 0655+1AMS 332 x246
GA089 AMS0940 – 1915AUH2045 – 0755+1CGK 332 x357

From 28OCT12, Garuda Indonesia and ETIHAD to codeshare on following routes.
Garuda Indonesia operated by ETIHAD GA9000 – 9099 and GA9900 – 9999 Series
Abu Dhabi – Amman
Abu Dhabi – Athens

Garuda Indonesia became SkyTeam candidate in 2012 and was set to join the alliance on 2012. This is now delayed and the new joining date is expected to be sometime in 2014.

There has been a lot of going on with the three Middle Eastern airlines lately. Emirates and Qantas signed up an agreement regarding the European traffic. Qatar decided to join the oneworld. Last week, Etihad signed an agreement with Air France-KLM and Etihad + Air Berlin (that is partly owned by Etihad).

Conclusion

Garuda Indonesia is quite a turnaround story. They had quite a few problems (crashing planes) at some point in the 2000’s and were put on an European Union black list. This ban of flying to Europe has been lifted.

I have only flown on Garuda once from Bali to Jakarta couple of years ago. The flight was uneventful and the service was typical what you can expect in Asia.

Etihad’s Offer for Double/Triple Bonus Miles for Business/First

Etihad has been sending these offers couple of times this year. I wrote about similar offer this spring that had really short validity period. This time the offer that Etihad emailed to me makes more sense. They are offering double miles for business class and triple for first class between October 16 and November 26, 2012.

etihad-guest-double-triple

Note that these offers are targeted. They seem to send them out if you haven’t flown Etihad in business or first class, or there has been a lapse in activity.

If you are planning to fly Etihad in paid business or first class, it might make sense to sign up for the Etihad’s frequent flier program and hope that they send you one of these offers as well.

Conclusion

This is a timely offer for me. I have been contemplating of buying a business class fare for later this month and getting some extra miles never hurts. I did a status match for Gold status on Etihad’s Guest program earlier this year.

Here are the terms and conditions of this targeted offer:

This offer is exclusive to a select segment of Etihad Guests, and is available by invitation only. Bonus Miles Promotion is valid for all bookings made between 15 October and 26 November 2012 for travel between 16 October and 27 November 2012. The bonus miles earned will depend on the fare class booked. The bonus miles will be offered only on Etihad operated flights and does not include redemption flights. The bonus miles will be credited for every eligible flight flown during the promotion period. The bonus miles earned will be Etihad Guest Miles and not Tier Miles. Members only earn bonus base miles and class bonus miles. The bonus miles will be credited at the end of the promotion period. This promotion is not valid for travel to Ahmedabad.

Air France-KLM, Etihad & airberlin to Form Strategic Partnership

The news that broke before the announcement of Qatar joining the oneworld alliance was the agreement between Etihad and Air France-KLM about strategic codesharing partnership that will take place.

air-france-klm-etihad-airberlin

Air France and KLM will codeshare to certain destinations operated by Etihad via Doha. Etihad will codeshare to some European destinations operated by Air France and KLM. Airberlin will codeshare also with Air France and KLM.

Airberlin is oneworld member airline and both Air France and KLM are members of the competing SkyTeam. Etihad owns part of airberlin and has provided loans to the airline. It is on Etihad’s best interest to ensure that airberlin is successful and stops losing money.

The website airlineroute.net, which specializes to airline route news, posted the following route/codesharing update about Air France, KLM, Etihad and airberlin yesterday:

AIRFRANCE operated by ETIHAD
Abu Dhabi – Colombo
Abu Dhabi – Dhaka
Abu Dhabi – Kathmandu
Abu Dhabi – Male
Abu Dhabi – Paris CDG
Abu Dhabi – Seychelles

airberlin operated by AIRFRANCE

Paris CDG – Nantes
Paris CDG – Nice

All AB Germany – Netherlands Routes
Berlin Tegel – Kaliningrad
Berlin Tegel – Kaliningrad
Berlin Tegel – Krakow

airberlin operated by KLM
All KL Netherlands – Germany Routes
Amsterdam – Edinburgh
Amsterdam – Glasgow
Amsterdam – Manchester

At first look the number of destinations that the airlines codeshare isn’t that great. Air France still has a codeshare agreement in place with Qantas regarding Australia. but Qantas has announced that it will drop it due to the agreement between Qantas and Emirates. Maybe Air France-KLM will tunnel their Australian traffic via Abu Dhabi on Etihad in the future?

The situation with the airberlin is just weird. The airline just officially joined the oneworld alliance earlier this year and was sponsored by British Airways. Now, the airline starts codesharing agreement with Air France & KLM that are both part of the SkyTeam alliance.

Conclusion

This is interesting development and might skew Etihad to join SkyTeam at some point in the future. These codeshare agreements aren’t that beneficial for the consumers unless the airlines are going to form a deeper partnerships and start honoring each other’s frequent flier benefits as well.

Etihad also has a codesharing agreement with American Airlines. Both airlines’ frequent fliers can redeem miles on each others flights.

Etihad Airways Now Starwood Preferred Guest Transfer Partner

Starwood and Etihad Airways announced their new partnership back in June. They both had dedicated pages and websites up about the ability to earn Etihad miles on Starwood stays and about the transfer option of Starpoints to miles. Unfortunately, the actual functionality was not up at that time.

starwood-etihad

Now, you can easily transfer Starpoints to Etihad miles. You just need to log into your SPG account and choose the option of transferring points to airline miles.

spg-ey

You can top up your Etihad account so that you can issue an award. For elite SPG Platinum members there is no minimum transfer requirement. I have few times transferred just couple of points to qualify certain partner promotion and/or hit the number of required miles to issue an award.

spg-ey-transfer

If you need to transfer more miles, it is best done in the blocks of 20K Starpoints that always get a 5K miles transfer bonus. Your 20K SPG points will turn to 25K Etihad miles.

Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa 50% Off

There is currently a great offer until the end of this year for Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways frequent fliers (free to join). You can get 50% off of the Hyatt Daily Rate. This is the lowest rate that I have seen for this property after they stopped accepting the Hyatt stay certificates.

I visited this beautiful property back in August and wrote a piece about it, as I also did about the Male city. I also did a piece how to get a great deal using those now discontinued stay certificates or points packages that include dinner as well.

park-hyatt-maldives-daily-rate

The rates using the Qatar Airways and the promotional code PHMQA are same as the rate using the Etihad code. Note that the Qatar offer is set to end on November 30th, 2012. Who knows whether it will be extended? The rate rules that you can find on Qatar’s web page for this offer are bit different than those on Hyatt.com under rate rules for this rate plan. You can also earn double Qmiles, although I would recommend collecting Hyatt Gold Passport points instead.

park-hyatt-maldives-qatar-airways

For the Etihad offer you need to use promotional code PHMEY1. This offer has the same rates as the Qatar one, but is valid until the end of the year.

park-hyatt-maldives-etihad-airways

Both of these offer exceptional value for Park Hyatt Maldives. Of course getting to Maldives is bit pricey and you need to fork some cash for the internal flights as well. But it is most definitely worth it.

Here are the rate details for both offers

Qatar Airways

UPDATE: Etihad Gold Status Match Program

Back in April Etihad extended a status match offer for Gold status on their Etihad Guest program for Gold or higher status members from competing programs.

I sent Etihad a copy of my Skywards Gold card and account statement from Emirates that showed quite a few flights in first class and few in business as well. About a month later, I received a reply from Etihad that they were processing the matches and that I should hear soon.

etihad-tier-match-reply

There was no other communication from Etihad, but when I was checking my account online the status had been upgraded to Gold and a card dispatched last week. Part of this offer was triple miles for business and quadruple for first class.

etihad-gold-status

etihad-gold-card-dispatch

I have to say that I am not too impressed how long it took Etihad to process a status match that they were offering in the first place. If you run a status match campaign, you should have procedures in place to ensure that they get processed swiftly. I did a status match recently with both SAS and Alaska. In both instances the match was done and approved within couple of days.

Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Latest Airline Partner Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, is the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) latest airline partner. It is always great to have more airlines partnering with Starwood as it is very convenient to transfer Starpoints to airline miles to top up accounts for awards.

starwood-etihad

Etihad sent an email couple of days ago about this partnership and SPG already has earnyourdreams.com/etihad website up for double, triple or 3000 extra miles depending of the upgraded accommodations your book in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

starwood-etihad-earnyourdreams

According to the email, you could already transfer Starpoints to Etihad Guest miles, but this is not the case. The airline doesn’t yet appear on the partner list.
