When I landed in London the week before last, before my nap at the Yotel, I was excited to try out the newly redesigned AA arrivals lounge at London Heathrow’s Terminal 3 which reopened in August.

This lounge reopened only days after my last arrival into LHR on American a few months ago, and during the renovations, eligible AA customers were allowed to use the BA arrivals lounge in T5, which in theory is a nice gesture, but T5 is quite a trek from T3.

I recently had a fairly long layover at LAX about a week and a half ago on my way to Hong Kong and had the chance to visit several airline lounges there and wanted to write a post to talk about my experiences and what I liked and disliked about each.

I flew on American Airlines for this trip, and being an Executive Platinum member of AA’s AAdvantage frequent flyer program (One World Emerald) and having a Priority Pass Select membership through my Citi Prestige credit card, I am able to access to quite a few lounges here.

All the alliances have around the world (RTW) fares from most of the destination they serve in economy, business and sometimes in the first class too.

The products vary a lot; some of them are miles based, some allow certain number of sectors (eticket maximum 16) and some allow segments on airlines not in the alliance. Also, the pricing is dependent where you start the ticket. [click to continue…]

American AAdvantage is the oldest of all the frequent flyer programs in existence today (started in 1981) and the last of the Big 3 US “legacy” carriers (along with United and Delta) that switched their mileage earning structure from distance to revenue-based (starting August 2016).

US Airways sent out a reminder that looked more like an email from American about the coming changes on 30th and 31st of this month.

US Airways will exit Star Alliance on March 30th and will enter Oneworld alliance on March 31, 2014. US Airways frequent fliers are no longer eligible for Star Alliance benefits after march 30, but can enjoy Oneworld Alliance ones. [click to continue…]

SriLankan Airlines spokesperson confirmed to Australian Business Traveller (access here) that the airline is joining the Oneworld alliance on March 1, 2014.

Edit: Seems that this is further delayed and new information should be coming out in the next month or so.
