Marriott is actively courting travelers in the Asia-Pacific to join Marriott’s frequent guests program Marriott Rewards. Couple of weeks ago I wrote about Marriott’s decision to offer free internet access at their Asia-Pacific hotels for just signing up.
In addition to free internet, Marriott is offering two different promotions for those residing/visiting, or at least having an address, at specific countries in the region. One is an instant Silver Elite status at the program and ability to earn bonus airline miles, and the other is a free one night stay certificate, which is capped at category 4 Marriot properties, just after two stays of which the first one must be in the Asia-Pacific. You need to sign up for the Marriott Rewards program at the hotel, if you want to participate to the latter promotion.

Have seen few of these sign up offers at various Marriott properties in the past few months in the Asia Pacific region. If you are planning to have couple of Marriott stays, and haven’t signed up for their rewards program previously, this is the probably the right choice for you. You need to sign up for this offer at one of their properties. You cannot sign up before your stay. The address of the rewards member does not need to be in Asia Pacific, rather only the first stay needs to be at one of the participating properties.

This sign up promotions requires a business/residential address in Australia, China, Guam, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand or Vietnam. You can sign up for this promotion online. You need to sign up before December 31st.You have 120 days after signing up to collect the bonus miles.

The bonus miles offer is valid for existing Marriott Rewards as well, as long as the registered address on file is in one of the above mention countries.
The participating airline programs for bonus miles are Air China PhoenixMiles, China Eastern Airlines Eastern Miles, China Southern Airlines Sky Pearl Club, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, KingFisher Airlines King Club, and Jet Airways JetPrivilege. When registering, you must make sure that your earnings preference is set to miles and one of the above mentioned programs is chosen. Air China and China Southern bonus miles are converted to kilometers and in these two programs the maximum that can be earned is thus 48000 bonus kilometers.
The Marriott Silver status normally requires 10 stays. It is an entry level status and comes with some benefits i.e. reservations guarantee that pays cash in case being walked, “priority” late check out based on availability, and some extra points.
You could sign up for the Marriott Rewards using the first offer if you value the free night more than the Marriott Rewards Silver status. After signing up you could register for the miles promo as an existing member.
