How to Find Out If You Have Been Upgraded At InterContinental Hotels Group Hotels? Here’s the Solution!


As you have probably already noticed, getting upgrades at hotels and airlines, based on the status I have with them, is very important for me. Typically I always check the website in the morning if the hotel has already processed their upgrades, and what kind of upgrade they have assigned for me.

Here’s a trick that you can use to check if you have been upgraded in advance at any of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) hotels that include InterContinental Hotel, Crowne Plaza, Staybridge Suite, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Candlewood Suites.Some hotels might process upgrades well in advance, but most hotels only do them the night before. There is a good explanation for this. The hotels can be quite sure about the inventory they have available for upgrades.

When you do the reservation on one of the IHG group’s websites, your reservation is then visible online and you will also receive an email confirmation.

When the hotel touches your reservation, your basic reservation details are still visible but the room type, rate, and others are not. This is quite annoying because you know that they have done something but you can never be quite sure what. Also this “disappearing” happens when they have processed the upgrades.

There is, however, a workaround for this. You can use the mobile website, intended for handheld devices, that show the details of these reservations that show the dreaded icon “Call for details” on the main website.  The reservation, I made for InterContinental Abu Dhabi, had been upgraded form a deluxe room to a king club.
