Starwood launches their Starpicks rates for various properties for the next couple of weeks mostly every Tuesday, although there have been gaps at times. These rates are typically available for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights for city properties. For resorts these rates can be available for all days. You need to book the rate by Friday.
Thing to keep in mind is that these rates are prepaid and non-cancellable. If your plans change, it is unlikely that you will get a refund. Also these Starpicks rates are not always the lowest. It pays to check the normal rates using various discounts codes that one is eligible for i.e. AAA.
Westin Taipei is advertising a Starpicks rate of 5199 TWD which appears to be the lowest publicly available rate. The hotel is also available for 10000 Starpoints or 4000 Starpoints + 60 USD using Cash and Points option. The pure points option is not great due to the price being discounted. The Strapicks rate and the Cash and Points options is borderline wash considering that the latter one is not eligible for possible points promotions that Starwood is running.
The Park Lane London is having a Starpicks rate of 159 GBP. The points options 12000 Starpoints per night. The property doesn’t offer Cash and Points option for the night in question. The thing to bear in mind is that when paying using points there are no other fees except some resort properties might charge a resort fee. When paying the 159 GBP rate you have to add another 20% for the value added tax. After the VAT the 159 GBP rate is around 304 USD.
