SAS (Scandinavian) is having a status match campaign in Hong Kong & China. I wrote about this a week ago. This is perfect opportunity to get a Star Alliance Gold status now that BMI is going away. I will use it mainly for lounge access in the United States when flying United or US Airways.
On Friday, I decided to take advantage of this offer as well. I opened a EuroBonus account with an address in Hong Kong. Then, I prepared the requirement documents. On the web page it says that you would need to email them a copy of the frequent flyer card or print out from an online account statement. I decided to include them both. I emailed these to the email address mystatus@sas.dk on Friday.
Today, I received a reply from mystatus@sas.se that they had already processed the match. This was about the fastest status match that I have seen. I recently did one with the Alaska Airlines, where I will credit some Emirates flights, and Etihad that was offering status matches to their Gold level. Alaska Airlines was able to process the match within couple of days, and I am still waiting for a reply from Etihad, which seems to be taking its time.
This comes very handy. My BMI Star Alliance Gold status won’t ‘t grand access to US and UA clubs, when flying domestically, beyond May 31st, 2012. I can now use my SK*G instead.
