AirAsia is a budget airline based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The group also has AirAsia X their long haul arm, Thai AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia, Philippines AirAsia, and AirAsia Japan. There really isn’t a difference between these various AirAsia off springs. They can all be booked on AirAsia’s website (some flights are now available on various Expedia country sites as well) and only the airline code is different for each of the airlines.
AirAsia has 11th birthday sale that is available for booking between November 26 and December 2 for travel between December 3 and March 31, 2013.
The airline has number of routes on sale from domestic to international routes on all the airlines. You can access all the sale info here.
Here’s one example from current sale. You can fly from Jakarta to Bangkok for around $150.
Note that the airline charges a fee for checked in luggage, paying online using a credit or debit card, and you need to cancel all kind of seat selection and optional insurance fees during the online booking process. If you can score a deal, these junk fees still doesn’t make the fare too expensive.
I have taken AirAsia two times this year. Both of the flights were on time and the airplanes were new. I took a flight out from their low coast terminal in Kuala Lumpur that reminded me of a freight terminal. Definitely not up to the other terminal and you have to walk on the tarmac to the plane.
It is good that AirAsia provides more reasonable cost options that the established airlines around Asia and help to keep their fares in check as well. The space is bit on the tight side but both of my flights were less than half full and I had the entire row to myself.
