American Airlines & Qatar Codesharing Commences on February 26

American Airlines & Qatar Airways have reached an agreement about codesharing each others flights. Qatar Airways is a Oneworld candidate and is expected to join the alliance in late 2013/early 2014. You can read AA’s press release about this agreement here.

American Airlines will place its code on Qatar’s flights from the United States and major European gateways like London to Doha, and beyond.

American Airlines AAdvantage members will be eligible to earn both elite and redeemable miles on AA coded Qatar Airways flights. It is unclear at this point, if fliers are going to earn miles on Qatar coded flights before the airline has officially joined the Oneworld alliance.

It is interesting to see, what is going to happen with AA’s other partners in the Middle East; Etihad Airways and Gulf Air, now that AA is starting to codeshare with their rival.

This is welcomed news to AA’s frequent fliers that can earn elite and redeemable miles flying on Qatar to Middle East and beyond.
