Priority Club changed on January 1st, what points activity qualifies for status renewal or qualification. Previously all points earned from various promotions and elite bonuses applied. From January 1st onwards, only specified activity qualifies towards elite qualifications.
Base points earned from Qualifying Rates paid for hotel stays, points collected from partner transactions, PCR Bonus Points Packages and Meeting Rewards are considered Elite Qualifying Points and counted towards membership elite status.
Bonus points packages to the rescue
There are hotels that are offering rather large bonus points packages as part of their room rate. I have a friend staying at Priority Club property in Manhattan later this month and he had booked a bonus points package that includes 25000 bonus Priority Club points. These bonus points count toward Gold/Platinum (re)qualification.
In this instance, you are likely over paying the room rate by around $100 to $150, but getting 25K Priority Club bonus points in the process. You just need to have two separate stays that you book using this package rate and you have almost done with your Platinum qualification.
This specific bonus points package is actually a very good deal. You can buy Priority Club points directly from Priority Club by doing Points & Money award reservations (and then canceling them) for $70 per 10K points.
Sometimes these bonus points packages can be a good deal and especially now that they still count towards Gold/Platinum status qualification.
