Last year, I wrote articles about Pros and Cons of Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental Hotels Group/Priority Club, Marriott and Starwood Preferred Guest that the readers of LoyaltyLobby appreciated a lot. If you haven’t checked them out yet, you should. I also summarized the Pros and Cons of these five programs in one post.
Now, I am trying to tackle the issue of how rewarding these programs really are in terms of “free” nights. Of course, there is no really such a thing as a “free” night. Hotels pay for the loyalty points that are issued to you and hotels where you use them get reimbursed for the stay.
Let me know what you would like me to include in this analysis. Leave a comment below or drop me an email.
Hotels have made comparing their programs very complicated. Some have discounts for multiple night awards, some have amenity points for Platinum/Diamond members etc. Programs award from 2 to 20 points per dollar spend.
I will try to tackle the issue of multiple earning/burning scenarios, incorporate short/longer stays, and maybe branded credit card as well.
Obviously, all the hotel chains would prefer program comparisons to be as difficult as possible. It is status quo for all of them as they can each tout their own programs as the most rewarding one. We’ll see in the next two weeks what my findings are going to be.
