Today (March 27) is the last day to redeem at the current point levels before Hilton HHonors introduces a new award categories and pricing tomorrow. You can read my post about this change here.
Loyalty programs evolve from year to year. I would compare this Hilton change to the one British Airways did couple of years ago. BA Avios used to be very good currency for international business and first class tickets on partner airlines due to flexible routing and stopover rules. This all changed and now they are best used for short haul flights in economy. That’s quite a drastic change.
Have you found any “gems” from the new Hilton award chart? Leave your comments below!
There was three properties (quick look) that I consider to be good value:
DoubleTree Beijing 5000 HH points per night
I have stayed a this property few times and it is a solid one. The lounge is good and I have always received a suite for being a HH Diamond member. I don’t expect this property to stay at 5K level for too long or it is there by a mistake in the first place.
DoubleTree Kuala Lumpur 10000 HH points per night
This is one of my personal favorites in Kuala Lumpur for price/quality/treatment. I have stayed there more than 10 times in the past 12 months. Both the Hilton HHonors Gold and Diamond treatment are good. The lounge is very nice as well
Hampton Inn Mexico City Centro Historico 10000 HH points per night
I have not stayed at this Hampton Inn but I am going to Mexico city late May/early June for couple of weeks. I have stayed at quite a few hotels in the city before (mainly in Polanco), but could try this Hampton Inn out. The location appears to be a good one.
Egypt properties at 5000 HH points per night
Then there are number of properties in Egypt that are only 5000 HH points per night. Tourism must be way off due to the recent political instability in the country.
This Hilton HHonors change will dramatically alter the way I use their points. For now, I have only redeemed them at the very high end properties, but it is no longer feasible after the change.
