Lufthansa is facing a second employee strike in about a month this coming Monday. The services sector union Verdi has called for a walk out on Monday April 22. You can read more about this Lufthansa’s website here.
During a similar strike month ago about 700 of 1800 daily flights were canceled. Lufthansa is going to publish a list of canceled flights on Saturday evening German time.
If you are flying on Lufthansa on Monday, you should check that the flight is operating. If the flight is canceled, you should check your reservation online to find out if the rebooking has already been done. If Lufthansa has not rebooked your or the rebooking is inconvenient for you, the best thing is to call Lufthansa and request them to accommodate you on other carrier.
Industrial actions (read strikes) are not uncommon in Europe. The union and the airline have not been able to reach an agreement about the future wages. Lufthansa’s offer has been below inflation level and union has requested 5% rise. Likely the agreement will be found somewhere between these two figures.
There will likely be future strikes unless parties are able to come up with an agreement.
