American Airlines has just launched the 2013 version of the elite rewards. You can choose between number on rewards for hitting certain milestones. You need to register this promotion by December 31, 2013, using promotion code ELTA3. You can access American’s website for this promotion here.
You can participate to this promotion at all American Airlines AAdvantage status levels. You can collect these rewards throughout the year.
The registration deadline is December 31, 2013, and is retroactive i.e. it will apply from January 9
The last date to choose the rewards is February 28, 2014.
Flights must post to AAdvantage account by January 9, 2014
Here are the different milestones:
Milestone 1: 40,000 miles/points or 45 segments
There are five offers to choose from:
- 10,000 Bonus Miles
- 3 500-Mile Upgrades
- 2 Admirals Club One-day passes
- Free BAGS VIP Luggage Delivery
- 10% AA.com Discounted
The 10,000 bonus miles option is the most valuable of these five choices.
Milestone 2: 75,000 miles/points or 80 segments
Again, there are five options:
- 20,000 Bonus Miles
- 1 Systemwide Upgrade
- 5 500-Mile Upgrades
- 4 Admirals Club One-day Passes
- 5 Single Segment Wi-Fi Passes
My personal choice at this level is the bonus miles option, but the systemwide upgrade is about same value as well.
Milestone 3: 125,00 miles/points or 130 segments
The five options this time are:
- 30,000 Bonus Miles
- 2 Systemwide Upgrades
- Gift of Gold for a Friend
- Admirals Club Membership
- 20% AA.com Discount
If you have use for some extra systemwide upgrades, I would choose that option. Otherwise you should choose the 30,000 bonus miles.
Milestone 4: 150,00 miles/points or 160 segments
The last five options are:
- 40,000 Bonus Miles
- 4 Systemwide Upgrades
- Gift of Platinum for a Friend
- Admirals Club Membership
- Global Entree Free Sponsorship
The four systemwides are the most valuable options of these five. If you don’t have use for them, choose the bonus miles option.

Do I have to register for the Elite Rewards program?
Yes. You must register at aa.com/eliterewards using promo code ELTA3 prior to 11:59 p.m. (CT) on December 31, 2013, to be eligible for the offer. A valid email address must be on file with the AAdvantage program, in order to be notified and provided instructions on how to select rewards online.
How do I update my email address on file with the AAdvantage program?
You can update your account information, including your email address, at aa.com/myaccount. Log in with your AAdvantage number and password and select “Personal Information and Password” to review and update existing account information.
How do I qualify for the Elite Rewards program?
You can qualify for Elite Rewards in 2013 in one of three ways – elite qualifying miles, points or segments. As you reach each Elite Reward milestone, you will be eligible to choose a reward.
Eligible flights must be posted to the AAdvantage members’ account by January 9, 2014.
How do I earn elite-qualifying miles, points or segments?
Elite-qualifying miles or segments are the actual miles or segments you earn on eligible purchased tickets for flights aboard American Airlines and AAdvantage participating airlines. The number of elite-qualifying points you earn is based on a combination of base miles earned and the class of service purchased for flights on American Airlines and AAdvantage participating airlines. When will I be rewarded?
You will be rewarded as soon as you achieve each milestone, as long as you are registered for the program and have a valid email address on file with the AAdvantage program. You will be prompted within a few weeks after you reach a milestone to choose your reward.
If I reached a milestone prior to registration, do I still get to claim a reward?
Yes, the program is retroactive, so you will be able to choose a reward from each milestone you have reached in 2013 regardless of when you registered.
What if I have already reached Milestone 1 and 2 when I register, how many rewards do I get?
You will be able to choose two rewards – one from Milestone 1 and another one from Milestone 2. Not only is the program retroactive, it is also cumulative. So, if you’ve reached Milestone 2, you’ve already reached Milestone 1.
I earned over 40,000 redeemable miles using my Citi® / AAdvantage® credit card. Am I eligible for an Elite Reward?
No, qualification for this program is based on elite-qualifying miles, points and segments. Elite-qualifying miles, points and segments are earned by purchasing and flying on eligible fare tickets on American Airlines and AAdvantage participating airlines.
May I give my Elite Reward to another AAdvantage member?
Elite Rewards are non-transferable. However, members who reach Milestone 3 or 4 may choose the “Gift of Gold status for a friend” or “Gift of Platinum status for a friend” option respectively.
How long do I have to complete the selection process?
Reward selection is available until February 28, 2014.
Once I’ve made my reward selection, can it be changed?
No, once you have confirmed your Elite Reward selection, it cannot be changed.
May I select a reward from a milestone I have not yet qualified for?
You may only select a reward once you have qualified for a particular milestone.
If I reached Milestones 1, 2 and 3, can I choose all three rewards from the same milestone?
You may only choose one reward from each milestone for which you qualify.
When will my reward selection be processed?
Processing time varies by reward. Most rewards are fulfilled within eight weeks. You will either receive notification by mail, email or you will see an account adjustment when you view your account online after logging on to aa.com with your AAdvantage number and password.
How do I know if my selection has been confirmed?
You will receive a confirmation number and email after you complete your reward selection.
If I haven’t received my reward, what should I do?
If you don’t receive your reward within eight weeks of selection, please contact AAdvantage Customer Service at 1-800-882-8880.
I had an elite-qualifying flight that was not credited to my account. How do I make sure those points apply to the Elite Rewards offer?
In order to qualify for this offer, eligible flights must be posted to the AAdvantage members’ account by January 9, 2014.
