In the past couple of months, I have received several emails from LoyaltyLobby readers about their qualification for InterContinental Royal Ambassador status or renewal of it. You can read my take about Royal Ambassador qualification requirements here and here.
It is extremely confusing, but IHG Rewards Club seems to use “Royal Ambassador Renewal” and “Ambassador Renewal” lines on the account history interchangeably.
Even if your online account statement shows Royal Ambassador Renewal, it might actually mean that you have been downgraded to just regular Gold or Platinum Ambassador.
It does apply the other way as well. Sometimes it might say Ambassador renewal, although your Royal Ambassador status has been renewed.
The only way to know for sure is to contact the IHG Rewards Club/Ambassador Service Center. I encountered this same problem last year and wrote about it here.
One could only hope that IHG Rewards Club could end this confusion about Royal Ambassador/Ambassador renewal.
