Star Alliance has not yet officially announced the joining date of the EVA Air to the alliance, but EVA’s inflight magazine for June has it for 18th of this month. EVA Air and Star Alliance signed an agreement on 2012 that the airline would join the alliance on 2nd quarter of 2013.
This would mean that starting on 18th of June the Star Alliance wide Silver and Gold benefits would apply on EVA flights as well and EVA’s frequent fliers would receive the same benefits on other Star Alliance airlines.
It might take few days after joining the alliance before all websites are updated with the info about the mileage and EQM earning fare classes on EVA.
Also, theoretically the EVA award availability should be alliance wide on the 18th, but it might take few days for the other airlines to update their award booking systems to reflect this change.
Conclusion
On June 18th, we will likely see photos of the Star Alliance airline CEO’s meeting in Taipei and portraits of the all Star Alliance carrier flight attendants with backdrops of EVA planes.
